Local contests? No, they rarely have any notable money award. the preparation itself will probably cost you more (food / supplements / roids if you do any). But if you want to become a professional you gotta start from somewhere and work your way up.
Dominating the local contests, will open up the opportunities to go into national wide or even world wide competitions, and acquiring a sponsor / getting job into fitness modeling.

But if you want to get into professional level, you HAVE to roid.
