This is objectively superior because it has a unilateral rowing motion for your upper and unilateral pushing simultaneously. You can make it harder by not using legs or only using legs. You can make it more posterior chain dominant by lowering the seat height and moving the seat back. It also takes up less space.

I have a water rower with a tank of water attached for its resistance. Doing intervals on it smokes my legs and it's more enjoyable than running for me. I ran a lot in my early 20s and my knees are paying for it now. I feel like if you can row for more than 30 minutes you aren't rowing hard enough and you're cheating yourself.

My gym has concept 2 rowing machines so I started doing the in menu trainings. I started with 5000m in over 36 min but then I read that newbies should start with 2000m.
After I improved my technique there was a notorious performance increase but I still don't know if I should go full speed and exhaust myself in 5 minutes or do a happy 30 min continous row
