If I'm otherwise fasting but take protein powder to help recover from heavy weights is this a good method to cut weight?
I'm doing this with no professional knowledge or experience. It makes sense in my head though.

Yes but you need to read RFL 2.0 since you will need to supplement it with magnesium, calcium,cod liver oil, fibre, vitamins etc...
You also need to limit your sessions to 1 set of heavy fives 2 times a week.
I did it and lost 24 lbs in 5 weeks excluding water weight, lost 10 lbs on bench and ohp, maintained squat and diddy.
