Training frequency is dictated by your current strength and size levels.

The idea that one routine is universally better than another is fucking retarded and I wish people would learn the reasons for differing frequency and volume etc.

Put simply:
First - recovery and growth are NOT the same thing. You can workout so hard to need 5 days recovery, yet only be growing for 1-2 days after the workout (assuming natty)

A beginner needs only basic stimulation to grow. This means less recovery time is needed, so a full body routine will give the best results in terms because they can get the necessary stimulus to grow without working so hard to need many days recovery.

An intermediate lifter will need a higher level of stimulation to grow, so recovery will take slightly longer, thus frequency is sacrificed for the sake of the necessary volume and intensity (for example a PPL, Texas method)

At the more advanced levels of size and strength, the volume and intensity needed to cause growth is higher still, necessitates even longer recovery periods, so routines like a brosplit, 5/3/1 or PHAT are better suited.

If pro bodybuilders could do full body 3x a week and recover in time, they absolutely would. But they can't because to grow at their size they need days of recovery per bodypart.
And this is where the misconception comes, people see a 5 day split that a bodybuilder does, and assume that must be how they got there. Doing a 5 day split when you can't bench 100kg is downright retarded because you will literally be spending 3-4 days per bodypart not growing every week, whereas full body will mean you are growing pretty much constantly.

All that said, do whichever you enjoy more. If you hate going to the gym then you'll end up quitting.
