I have trouble treating women respectfully because of this...

The important part of this is that women, when recognized as women, can NEVER know how men are treated. They can claim they want fair treatment all they want, but I think they mostly don't know what that would be like.

For fat women, I think it would be even worse, because currently, they get hit on by desperate chubby chasers - or ignored. If they were treated 'equally', they would be mocked, laughed at, and if they got mad about it (rather than mocking back) they identify themselves as losers.

Construction is getting harder and more serious because of more safety bylaw. Liablity and the market of WCB AND OH&S are making things that way. You can't have shenanigans because people get hurt. With more safety bylaw (mostly staffed by women) ends up in a more strict social setting.

I've worked in construction for almost 10yrs now, as a grill. It's still a boys club. You need to learn to blend in with the more masculine dynamic and I don't think that will change any time soon. Any lady who doesnt come in as a tomboy usually just flunks out of the trades as a slutty cleaning bitch or goes into safety where paperwork is the game. I'd say 95% of men that I've worked with are completely pleasant and on board with having female trades come in. The others are old fucks or immature men who have underlying bitterness with woman to begin with.

that being said, I still think one of my success in the (painfully) small world of construction is my reputation. That comes with never sleeping with anyone I work with or around. (no boyfriends coveted from big tower jobs ever). We can work together just like we can create platonic friendship. You just need discipline and respect for each other. But I work much more comfortably with the idea that if men want to touch me inappropriately while i'm working, or leer, or write gross love notes on my job box (among many other things I've experienced), they're doing it at the risk of zero tolerance and getting kicked off the site permanently. Former EMT here. We got a lot of support actually and as a part of the union, when shit like this happened, it wasn't uncommon for us to get a week off, paid, or an entire month off paid to recoup. They just asked us to stop in once a week and hang out at the station, eat lunch and still socially interact.

911 Dispatchers are the ones that go insane though. People kill themselves on them all the time. People scream that they're being beaten by deadbeat boyfriends/so forth and the cops go there and they retrack everything. And the cycle repeats, they call, cry, and retract. And when shit happens to them, they get 10 seconds before their next phone call. But as an EMT or Firefighter, some days I'd only be sent on a single call. 8 hours for 1 thing to do. While they commonly handle 80 emergencies individually in a shift.

We get fucked up. But man, Police, Fire and EMS have support groups and our superiors want us to use them. Dispatch are the ones that go insane. You ever meet one in person, buy them lunch instead of a beer. Never get them a beer.
