You can kind of think about it like lifting weights with a four sided bar. Its going to work but you will always cut your hand. Something about the geometry on a road bike and the way you lean into it makes it that much easier to utilize your legs to the fullest.

Peugots are pretty nice used to have one, should upgrade in about a year.Slam the stem for now, get some fenders a rack and a pannier, makes a world a diffrence for commuting.

aim for under 10kg preferably under 9kg bike weight. under 8kg you are mostly looking at carbon bikes then, 2k € and over class, not needed for amateurs or sunday bikers tho

I also bought a red Peugeot 3 days ago. It was 220 Euros in good condition.

you can get a < 8kg bike for about 1,800€, with Shimano 105.

Carbon is superior in any case, expect if you crash. Amateurs should consider buying (having) a good bike, and also have a winterbike.

I've been biking with a shitty mountain bike the past 6 years. Only about 100km a week, but it killed me. The rusted gears and chain made it a bitch to move as well.

Any tips on a proper road bike? I'm looking for one, but my local shops dont have anything under $800 and I live in the middle of nowhere.
Should I just get something used for cheap and upgrade it, or spurge the extra money for something decent?

road bike quality from 60-00s is good quality stuff, and almost all shimano parts from 60s -00s are interchangeanble (no dura ace tour de france tier shit, but most)
