Hello /fit/. I've been fat for probably seven years now and recently went from obese to overweight. I have hit a flatline and now instead of looking at my calories and stopping myself from going over them, I ignore it and act like it's only once even though it happens almost everyday now.

I've been told to just not eat, but that really doesn't help me, I can't help it most of the time but rarely get the discipline to ignore something like a bag of chips.

Can I get some advice for me and other anons in this thread to help me get me back on track and down to my goal weight?

I'm 5'11 and 215 pounds, my goal weight is around 170, my heaviest was 237.

Pic related is me five minutes ago.

How does one get self-discipline? Or develop it if you will.
>>
>>42595895
fasting for atleast 3 days
drink water and eat salt pickles, diet sode/drinks, and gum.
levels everything out and shrinks your stomach. then start your new diet

The pickles are for electrolytes correct? I bought pic related for a water fast I never got the balls to do.
>>
>>42595895
Fake it until you make it. If you tell yourself 'I'm a person who eats healthy', remember it and actually listen to it. Then you will become it. It's hard for people who lack resolve to do it.
>>
Self discipline is built on top of performing a task repeatedly.

Essentially, use your self control to stop yourself from eating a bag of chips. Then eventually it will become effortless.

If you claim you can't, then you really cannot. That's how it works.
>>
>>42596078
eh really for the low LOW Calorie content and the soduim in the brine pickle juice is goat. just remember to drink lots of water
in my experience 1st day is uncomfortable 2nd day is the worst 3rd and onward day is easy VERY important if you get any stomach pain or muscle pain after 3 days stop the fast
>>
>>42595833
Just stop binge eating. That's the only way. Remember your goals and realize that the bad of chips is going to hold you back. Also if you can't ignore junk food around the house don't buy junk food. Simple
>>
>>42595833
stop being a fucking fat gutless piece of shit, and man the fuck up.
there is no magic bullet. just discipline and will. if you aren't meeting your goals, then you aren't wanting it hard enough. period.
>>
>>42595833
Go low/no carb 6 days a weeks. 7th day, start off with a high protein breakfast, then eat literally whatever the fuck you want, in any quantity, for the rest of the day.

Follow a three day cycle. Lift one day. Run a 5k the next, rest the next.

Weight will melt off of you. The refeed day will replenish glycogen stores in your muscles and keep you from going through hormonal downregulation. Plus, you don't have to avoid binging, just delay it to it's one scheduled day a week.

t. Former 325lb fatass who is now half-fit at 180lbs and 12-%16% fat. For reference, I'm 6'4.
>>
Remove all junk food from the environment and eat only repetitive food. I recommend potatoes because they have a good track record (Penn Jillette and Spudfit)
>>

like I said, there's no magic pill for self discipline. It's one of the few things in life you can't buy, you can't borrow, you have to build it yourself. Set small goals, at first keep accomplishing them, keep building ontop of the foundation. that'll build not only self discipline but also self confidence, and those are two qualities that will help you in virtually every aspect of life
>>
>>42596094
It seems like a hard thing to do if you know the truth inside but I can see it working after a while.
>>42596105
This is something I can see working, I made a list a week or so ago of things I want done but they're all large long term tasks, perhaps I should add smaller things to the list.
>>42596112
Thank you, I had no idea about the pains.
>>42596159
>>42596245
I still live with parents who are fat and buy junk food weekly, it's hard to avoid. Moving out is also out of the question.
>>42596196
Oh believe me I want it, but I see where you're coming from.
>>42596200
That's very impressive, what you have done. I just want to lift more often than two or three days a week.
>>42596324
This is what I was thinking reading a former post, do small stuff like clean my bedroom or making my bed.

Motivation.

Everytime youre about to eat, stop, look at pictures of your goal body, what you hope to become. Ask yourself, do you want that piece of food or that body.

Also fasting, i was kinda like you and always cheated, the results were too slow and i lost motivation. Try fasting, it helped me loads.
>>
>>42595833
Honestly I'm going to drop the 4chan edgy meme persona for a second.

If you just get yourself through the first couple days, and take it one day at a time, controlling your eating becomes way easier.

One thing I did to help curb my hunger was to drink something highly caffeinated. The sips meme isn't just for lifting. I just had to drink just one can of a 0 cal energy drink, and my hunger was gone for a couple of hours. That's why you have to take caffeine pills during an EC stack.

Make sure you lift and eat at least 1g of protein per lb of body weight to maintain muscle during your cut. Good luck.
>>
>>42595895
Start off slow. Look at your shit diet and take out one small thing. Like one can of soda or that mid day bag of chips. Do that until you are comfortable then take something else out. Over time you will have changed your lifestyle and it will snowball.
>>
>>42595833
>a bag of chips
the fact that you even own one of those means you'll probably fail. maybe get rid of all your fatness triggers and read seneca. then gradually train yourself to enjoy the finer details, like small shards of dark chocolate or a drizzle of honey, instead of shoving fucking garbage down your mouth like a fatass. it takes time because the microbiota must heal too.
>>
>>42595833
There's more likely an emotional connection to your binge eating. You're using food as an antidepressant to accommodate a lack of neurotransmitters (like dopamine) in your brain. I suggest taking SAMe every morning at around 400mg and slowly using the energy and antidepressant effects provided by that supplement to change your diet to something that incorporates more micronutrient rich foods. Inositol at anywhere from 6-12g can also calm your mind down by enhancing serotonin and working with your GABAminergic pathways to suppress appetite and feel more content with life.
>>
>>42600270
Once you've restored some balance to your neurotransmitter deficiency cravings should theoretically go away which is why those supplements should be the first plan of action. Take things slow.
>>
>>42600270
>>42600284
I'm glad the supplements you recommended don't require a perscription. With inositol, the only capsules I can find are 1000mg, I would take 6 to 12 of those at once?
>>
>>42600412
Buy inositol from iHerb in powdered form and weigh it out. Much more cost effective than the capsules. Usually people with binge eating disorder and compulsive behaviours in general have an underemethylated profile, which means you have a deficiency of neurotransmitters that you accommodate for with certain behaviours like eating yummy foods or dabbling in drugs or compulsively masturbating or gaming to restore balance. If you're interested in getting to the root cause of your mental illness (because binge eating disorder is a mental illness) check out Dr. Will Walsh's book "Nutrient Power". Helped me overcome my depression and anxiety and testosterone issues by getting to the root cause of my health through genetics and nutrition. Finally feel myself again :).

Sounds about right.

How should I take the inositol? Just mix it with water or coffee or something? Thanks for the help, I'll look into that book as well. Also I'm glad you managed to sort yourself out.
>>
>>42595833
Do it the same way other addicts do. Lock yourself in a room with a handful of fun things to do, a shit ton of water and some healthy food. Alternatively, throw out all the junk you binge on and only stock healthy foods that take at least 10 minutes to make. Just chugging water anytime I felt hungry outside of planned meal times was what helped me gain control and lose weight.

Went from 280 to 210 recently

I had no willpower and I couldn't control myself by regular calorie restricting and every time I said to myself I'll eat at a 500 kcal deficit I 'accidentally' ate something very unhealthy and only afterwards did I realize what I just did

What helped me kick it off was implementing a 16/8 IF which helped me be at a caloric deficit simply by shrinking my eating window, but I still found ways to eat unhealthy snacks.. but I was still in a caloric deficit!

What topped it all off was implementing the ketogenic diet along IF and I haven't cheated ever since simply because there are no 'unhealthy' binge foods I could consume on the fly with a ketogenic diet. Before keto if I forgot to meal prep I went ahead and got myself a sub from subway because it was convenient and now if I forgot to meal prep I go to the grocery store and get myself cheese and salami.. literally 0 kcal

In my opinion forming a regime, a pattern that restricts certain things is easier for the brain and willpower than just 'eat less'
>>
>>42600548
Take it with cold water. Jarrow Formulas and Myprotein have inexpensive and effective Inositol. Good luck on your journey man. Don't beat yourself up about the binge eating or lack of motivation. I hope you conquer this and get better.
>>
>>42600613
Yeah I figured. There's no doubt in my mind you're undermethylated. I'm not a doc but I have done an exorbitant amount of self-education. If you have the money schedule an appointment with a functional GP with this website www.walshinstitute.org/clinical-resources.html (stay away from naturopaths though, most are quads). Other nutrients Dr. Will Walsh recommends for people like you and me is methionine, calcium, magnesium, vitamin b6, vitamin c, and zinc, all of which we have a genetic tendency to be deficient in and require supplementation on top of a fairly healthy diet to maintain levels adequate for our needs.
>>
>>42600617
Fasting works well for me, I typically eat more after eating if that makes sense, I feel like for me I would need more time without eating, say 20 or 22 hours. In the end patterns seem to help the most with weight loss; and congratulations with yours!
>>42600625
Thank you very much for your advice, I'll end up completing this journey at some point which will hopefully be soon.
>>42600677
I had no idea, there's something new to research. I've been lacking a healthy diet for most of my life and can certainly see incorporating one into my life helping with many things I am having trouble with.
>>
There are a number of ways to overcome binge eating.

The easiest is with drugs (ephedrine/adderall/opiates), however it won't actually change your behavior permanently and you're likely to put the weight back on after. I strongly suggest you buy some healthy food and throw all the junk out. Chips, hotpockets, chocolate, it's gotta go. If it's in the house it's too easy to eat.

Don't make the mistake of getting gross food, you won't eat it and will end up at McDougals. Get stuff like watermelon, broccoli you can cook in teriyaki sauce, a bunch of seasonings and flavors you can use, and stay the fuck away from diet soda. Chug water when you first start to feel hungry, do it again the second time (should delay for an hour) and then eat. Your food will taste better if youre actually hungry. You don't have to starve yourself though, and its better to eat til you're full and exercise adequately. If you eat that day, you need to exercise that day. Cardio/aerobics/swimming every day for an hour plus lifting, that's the bare minimum that will keep you in shape and from dying of fat-related diseases.
>>
>>42600881
I don't feel like messing around with drugs anyways. Thank you.
>>
The only tip I can give you (since I have very little knowledge of health and fitness) is just do drink a fuck-ton of water. I fasted for fun for about 2.5 days and I would probably chug about 3 bottles of water every couple hours whenever I got hungry. If you're not looking to fast, just chug a bottle of water before you eat and whenever you get hungry in between meals.

It's the only advice I'm willing to give because I know it works
>>
>>42595833
Learn moderation and if you want chips eat them.
>>
>>42595833

Don't buy shit that isn't good for you.

Just think of it as being destructive to your health and wealth.

It's hard in the beginning but when the cravings for fast food or sugar disappears it's ok

Start making small changes in your diet 1 by 1 but make it so that it not overwhelming at once. I first started cutting my sugar intake by half, then a month later I just completely cut it and I had no problems. Start eating 1 piece of fruit in the morning and pick 1 or 2 veggies that you like and eat that at night. Just put it next to you while you are shitposting. You will reach for it without realising. Since you wanna lose weight dont eat too much fruit. I would say 1 piece a day is fine. Veggies are very good so after a few weeks add a few more veggies to eat in the night.
Currently I am eating a portion of blueberries and a banana in the morning. In the evening I eat 4 carrots, half a paprika, 1 tomato, 1/3 cucumber and some lettuce. I just put it on my desk while browsing and in half an hour its gone.
Your body is used to eating shit food so you have to slowly remove and replace them.
Good luck buddy.
>>
>>42595833

consistent calories, something you have to work on buddy.

don't overeat, don't undereat, keep your head out of your ass and start to sweat, cardio, lifting, whatever.

be consistent
>>
>>42595833
Dont have snacks around in the house and dont eat out at work. Count your calories.
>>
I follow some anorexic girls on Tumblr because they give good advice on how to stop feeling hungry.
>drink lots of water 20 minutes before eating
>eat slowly, wait a minute between bites
>take smaller bites
>chew slowly
>if you wanna binge lay down close your eyes and count to 100, craving will pass
>multiple small meals better than few big meals
Helps me feel less hungry throughout the day
>>
>>42602534
>>42602438
>>42602393
Small but very good things to keep in mind.
>>42602350
I never thought of this that way, but it's true. It's better to reach over and find good food rather than shitty food.
>>
>>42595833

Stop looking for excuses, stop looking for shortcuts, stop looking for justifications, and just fucking stop. There's nothing to it but to do it, you weak-willed sentient pudding pop.
>>
You definitely need more discipline but you could try EC stack, destroys hunger and will help with energy for the gym too
