It's totally fine if you switch out the bar an for a handle and sit to the side but if you just use the standard bar you're going to throw it out of balance and not get an even shittier ROM. I have seen some people just put their hand in the middle of the bar to avoid the imbalance and I guess that's fine.

There's nothing wrong with trying to hit your muscles in different ways, but i so frequently see dipshits use the cable machines in ways that demonstrate they didn't even bother looking at how to do certain exercises and they swing around wildly without any consideration for form.

There's something about the cable machines that allow for experimentation (unlike the regular machines that force you to do the exercise a specific way) but aren't as intimidating to newbies as the free weights are. So they just go wild.

I see some weird shit with free weights on occasion, but not as much.

They tend to slide/drag the plate along the bar, they do not lift and slide the plate.
Which leads to the weight of the plate pushing downwards, near the edge of the bar.
