your core will get stronger from doing it yes
if you can't touch the pole with your chin yet, consider getting on a stool and starting with your chin on the pole and then stepping off while descending as slowly as you can, these are called "negative touch-chin-to-poles"

this guy was describing pullups, trying to bamboozle OP into trying it. OP would then realize that he was tricked into doing pullups, a well known and highly effective compound movement
