If I had to choose one thing about this sport that I love, it's how the power-lifting community is SO warm and inclusive of people of ALL shapes, sizes, genders, and disabilities! :)

i'm not advising complex programming, i'm advising something that has doesn't make you peak each week and therefore allows you to do more volume and train harder (because you can afford to be a little fatigued)

TM goes one of two ways, depending on where you are in your training and how you respond to training
A: you don't need that much stimulus to get an adaptation or you can recover very well, VD is enough to force an adaptation and you recover by ID, you do very well on the program (at least for squats)
B: you need more stimulus to get an adaptation than you can recover from by ID, you run into walls of fatigue repeatedly - you rotate ID rep schemes, you deload 10% and work back up, but you really just make little bursts of minor progress between banging your head against the wall

this isn't even getting into the shitty bench portion of the program and shitty deadlift portion of the program

i ran TM and have known many people who ran TM, it works very well for a few and poorly for most which is why Rippetoe does not recommend the program and most of the SS coaches on their forum don't either

Try to drag him to the gym. I've managed to get mine to join at least once a week, which has helped sufficiently on his health and posture even if he'll never get strong this way. It only took me a year of persistently trying when I saw an opportunity. Just avoid asking too frequently (will make him defensive) and take a no for a no without arguments.

The other responses are valid. Honestly though, I've had better success with deloading by just doing different exercises.

Maxing out on rack pulls, good mornings, and log press in my deload week did more for me than doing half the total reps on the same lifts with the same weight.

I tolerate intensity WAY better than volume, though, so that might be part of it.

Then you'll simply have to have contact with him frequently enough that you get to talk a bit about your own positive experiences sometimes and suggest things for him at other times. Not every time though. The trick is to expose people to the idea enough to make them think it themselves too without badgering them into a defensive position. If I was you I'd try to subtly make him want to until Christmas and then lift yourself and ask him to join when he has no excuse not to come. Then try to ensure he doesn't hate it and hope he recognizes the benefits. Eating healthier should come as a natural consequence of lifting.

Yeah, he doesn't recommend Texas Method, that's why he dedicated about a third of a book to explaining different ways to do it.

The problem with people on /fit/ running TM is that people on /fit/ are fucking morons getting their advice from other morons on /fit/ or shitty online articles from T Nation or the like. So they end up with a hideous misunderstanding of what they're supposed to be doing.

First, start your VD sets at 75% of your 1RM, not any particular percentage of what you do on ID. If you're going to do the 5RM on ID, start at 85% of your max. If you're going to do 5 single (more handy for powerlifting I feel), start them at 90%.

Second, ADD USEFUL ACCESSORIES AS NEEDED. And it probably will be needed for bench press in short order. Dips, close grip bench press, LTEs to a lesser extent, and even curls are good options to add in. If your squat is stuck at an embarrassingly low weight, add back off sets or some front squats to VD.

Third, if you aren't wearing proper footwear (Converse shoes and barefoot don't count), a decent belt, squatting low bar, and eating and sleeping enough, the problem isn't TM, it's you. The problem is you and your many, many failings.

I nearly failed on my 130kg 1x5 on week 3, the last 2 reps took a solid 30 seconds to finish. The whole set was probably 45 seconds long. I just upped my 5x5 weight by 5lbs (since I just barely hit it) and tried going for it again and breezed through it the next week. Just keep with it and repeat the process until you get it, sometimes you just move to quickly.

5th week into TM, squat/diddle has gone up at least 50lbs (to be fair I didn't train deadlift until now) and bench/OHP went up at least 15lbs. It's good if you can recover from maxing each week, but find something else to use for upper body lifts. I'm having issues with the bottom position of my squat. Going deep I've had issues straining the right upper part of my calf (guessing pic related - peroneus longus).

Have any of you encountered this before and do you know a better way to mobilize the area? I can avoid the issue by reducing my depth a bit but my squat is much stronger from a deeper position.

If you've never run sheiko and your bw is between 80 and 120 kg, I would highly suggest starting with medium load. /plg/, what wrist wraps to get?
I've had issues with my wrists in the past. When I was using a brace for my problem wrist, squats and bench felt significantly better
so I've decided that, in this case, having some support would be nice.
Not sure at all what makes any brand different from one another. I understand that there is variation in stiffness in wraps, having more flexible ones is not a problem

The stiffness really depends on the length. There's 12 inch. 24 inch and 36 inch. I think there are more but that's the main 3. If you are looking for something to give you mental comfort and some support go for 12 mainly if you plan on using them a lot throughout your workouts . If you are looking for good support for heavy weight go for 24 to 30 inch. But they aren't really comfortable to be wearing all throughout the day mainly for heavy lift like above 70 percent max. Anderson powerlifting have very good wraps for 20-25 usd

If all you have is 45 minutes, you can still deadlift. If you're totally beat to shit and tired, just go eat a pizza and sleep.
