I'm in Austin, Texas, but I've had all the burger chains from constant travel. In-N-Out is way better than Five Guys. What-A-Burger is also great and I think at the same tier as In-N-Out. Cook Out I think quality is worse than Five Guys, but I rate it higher due to cheap cost and variety. I get Cook Out whenever I'm visiting Boone, NC.

The only thing I can knock In-N-Out for is you have to ask for the fries well done, as regular cooking it still kind of undercooked.

In-N-Out in Austin I never have a problem with. I lived in D.C. and Miami before and chains can't really compete with the quality and prices that In-N-Out has.

Houston is a major city with multiple top tier museums, theater companies, restaurants, athletic teams, job opportunities, clubs, you name it. Austin just has a good bar and music scene, and its few top restaurants are knock offs of what creative chefs were doing in LA five years ago.

Austin is a great place to visit, but it gets old living there. Not to mention it seems like everybody is the same 20-something, vaguely hip, college-educated white person. Nothing wrong with that, but its fucking annoying that everybody you meet feels the same.
