I can run a 5k at 11 km per hour
my first ever 5k race is next week. Can I rely on adrenaline at all for a better pace?
If this is your first race and there's a crowd, yes. You can probably add 0.5 or even 0.75km/h to your pace. If you've done this before you'd be used to it by now so the effect isn't there as much.
This works for races up to a half marathon. In a whole marathon starting much faster than your training speed will only lead to failure in the last quarter.
