I got post-infectious IBS in March of last year and it still hasn't gone. I ate a bad meal or something and had a stomach ache for three days, since then I've never been the same. I just get bad stomach bloating and nearly constant stomach discomfort (sometimes worse than others but almost always have a baseline level of stomach discomfort). It's fucking awful. It also affects my energy levels; I feel like an old man now.

Only way I've improved is that I'm not constipated anymore like I used to be, have regular shits every day and good sized ones (they used to come out like small pebbles, it was awful, and I didn't feel like I was completed "emptied"). Maybe the bloating is a bit better, too, but it's hard to tell since improvement, if it's even there, is so marginal. However I can definitely say there's no more constipation.

Doctors can't help me. One gastro told me it should go away in a year or so but over a year later and I'm still suffering. What do? Will this go away? Anybody here have experience? I hate this shit so much /fit/.

IBS sufferer here (although Chronic not post-infectious).

The key is to work out which foods give you the pains, which will be different for everyone, through trial and error to see what you can tolerate, then remove them from your diet. Your symptoms will improve. With diet control I dont even notice it anymore unless I cheat.

For me its:
Most types of bread
Rice
Pasta/Spaghetti
Dairy (I allow myself some milk with my protein shake which my body can tolerate, but any more and I'll cramp).
Most types of beans

My source of carbs almost exclusively come from potatoes and fruit as I find them much easier on the stomach. Starchy carbs for whatever reason is just easier on me (for instance, white rice/pasta is easier than brown, if I had to pick) and hasn't really affected my gains making the switch. I used to eat 'healthy' brown rice for carbs pre-workout and I'd end up shitting 3-4 times in a session. Horrible times.

Beans and anything spicy will give me near debilitating stomach upset

need to watch my diet carefully
nothing spicy, nothing with flour, very little milk

i can't eat before about 11am, i usually get up at 7:30
tea or coffee feels toxic if i don't have food in my stomach
can't eat too much

and even when i do i still have bad days where anything i eat will set me off

it can also be stress related

if i have something important i need to do i usually don't eat at all during the day just in case

I used to think I had IBS, but then I found out that I was allergic to something I had been eating regularly. I haven't had any problems since. Maybe try changing up your diet to make sure it's not a food allergy?

Yes. I have the mixed type (constipation/ diarrhea)

My trigger foods are:
Beer/ Malted beverages
Beans
Anything fatty/ greasy like burgers, fries, etc
Dairy

are you drinking ginger tea? I started doing that do to shits 2x day, and it cleared everything up, I literally drank wine and ate nachos then had a nice hearty log in the morning.

I've tried to find my triggers. I know I can't have lactose anymore (confirmed severely intolerant following breath test, so fucked up, used to eat pizzas and drink milk like they were nothing before this started). I think gluten has a bad build-up effect where if I keep eating it it gets worse so I'll have it very rarely. 99% of the time I eat gluten free bread. No fizzy drinks anymore, those are awful for me. No more caffeine, coffee absolutely wrecks me now and I used to love it. No more stuff like crisps or other processed crap. Apart from this mentioned stuff I can't really tell what bothers me, seems kinda random. I also try to avoid high fodmap foods like garlic, apples, onions but I haven't started a proper low fodmaps diet.

Try keto. It's not the ultimate solution but you can use it to get some relief every now and then.
