You can't get gainz when you don't get sufficient sleep.

Make sure you sleep within optimal circadian times
from 9-10PM. Sleeping past 1 or 2 really fucks up the recovery stage. You may as well not have worked out because the body cannot repair the muscles. Also, slows your metabolism the next day and makes you hungrier.

Sleep is essential.

Also, HIIT is the single best method of cardio for shedding fat, if you do it correctly. You should be pushing yourself as hard as you can (till you feel like puking) for around 20 seconds, then rest for 2 minutes. Intensity is key in HIIT.

If weight loss is the goal carbs should be kept to around 100grams a day,( if you're not very active due to your job, if you are more active, you're aloud more).
Protein should be about 1 gram/ lb of bodyweight i.e. if you weight 200lbs eat 200g of protein a day.

I'm so close to hitting my first milestone. I started off at 260.4 lbs. (I'm 6 feet tall) on July 23, and as of this morning I weighed 250.6 lbs., and I really should be under 250 by the end of the week unless something goes horribly wrong. What I've been doing so far is mostly about diet. I've been preparing all my meals at home (mostly homemade, but a few prepackaged) instead of grabbing fast food or ordering a pizza. No fast food, nothing from the vending machines at work, no sugary drinks, and way less snacking (and picking healthier, lower-calorie snacks). I've been tracking my calorie consumption every day and keeping it around 1,800/day. I've also been getting some light workouts -- walking/jogging 3 miles -- aiming for 3 or 4 a week.

Yeah, I'm trying to improve the jogging/walking ratio as I go on. Between getting acclimated to working out again, improving my fitness, and decreasing my weight (and thus the beating my ankles, knees, and hips take), the workouts keep feeling better. I have been dealing with shin splints, though, so maybe it's time to get some new shoes, or at least inserts.

I really wish I was closer to the trail that runs between the two big parks in town. I'd love to be able to just hop on my bike and get on the trail. I like biking a lot more than walking or jogging, and I'm able to get a better workout with it, too. But I have quite a bit of a ride to get to the trail in the first place, and it seems like there's a new "cyclist hit by car" story in the newspaper every week or two.

Some days, I feel pretty good, and can go to the gym, attempt squats, OHP and deadlifts (with limited success due to being out of shape / not agile enough). But now, since Friday, everything has been a drain. I skipped gym, and something as simple going as one floor of stairs is really tiresome and exhausting.

My work isn't physically demanding so I guess I could be exhausted there. I do the equivalent of a security guard watching a screen and only on the odd occasion something is off I have to do something.
But I would have to get up like 5 AM for that, drink a coffee, eat something and hit the gym. Go home, shower, let my body cool down, put on clothes and sweat for the next hours.

Thought I'd put in enough, but maybe I'm going low between the apple till pre-workout meal which is usually oats around 7 PM.
So ideally, if I'm disciplined (which I usually am not) I would during a day eat:
7AM: Oats+banana
11AM: 2 crackbreads with lots of fiber, 4 pieces of ham, 2 slices of cheese and 2 eggs
1PM: an apple and some grapes
7PM: oats
9-10PM: Protein-rich dinner

But I'm feeling more up now, after eating my chili. It's delicious and I assume healthy.

I don't like working out before 8PM due to it being crowdy, and it seems like even if the squat-racks are empty, as soon as I take one, the other 4 is filled instantly.

Your digestion system is like an isolated eco-system (easily explained), so you feed your gut bacteria - which there are a lot of different types of. So by eating healthier, you have a healthier digestion (if it's due to sheer numbers, easier food for the bacteria to handle, or something else I dunno).
Apple cider vinegar, probiotics, fiber. It's whats helped me going from painful to less painful. Anxiety is still a bitch, but less pain causes less anxiety for throwing up or shitting myself.

A pint's a pound, anon. 3-4 glasses of water plus what you ate for breakfast and lunch would explain it. This is exacerbated if you drink alcohol (dehydrated in the morning) or had a dinner with lots of carbs - in which case you won't piss the water out right away so that it can be used to digest the carbs. none of this is related to how much fat you gained or lost.

going to sound like a huge fag boy here with this one. But I was in the same boat as you this april. I stumbled upon a professor named jordan peterson from when he was on the joe rogan podcast (from november, not may). I started watching two of his lectures from the university of toronto on his youtube, on personality and another broader course called "maps of meaning". several of the episodes on personality outlined how depression and motivation work, and the mechanism of alcoholism/addiction. I was drinking a lot, and playing a shit ton of video games.

So I just turned these lectures on as I was drinking, and as I was playing video games, this went on for weeks. eventually something clicked. lots of friends/family had told me I needed to do better before, but with this, it felt like I had a new motivation that came from myself, not from someone telling me what to do. for me, that was what I needed to get into the right mindset long-term. the first week sucks, but after that you just coast, man.

I'm not trying to shill for this guy, I'm not even suggesting you bother watching any of his stuff, he kind of rambles on. There are lots of criticisms of him, and yes, most are valid. but there are a few things to keep in mind.

-wake up at the same time every day, just pick a time and wake up. this will regulate your mood and motivation throughout the entire day.
-eat like an adult. take 2 fucking minutes to figure out your TDEE and basic nutrition.
-stop drinking soda and alcohol like a slob. this might be the only thing you need to give up.
-track your calories for one week with MFP, if that's too much work, then just know how much energy is in what you are eating and consider how it adds up to your TDEE.

Keto helped me because I basically tricked my fatty brain into thinking I was still eating treats all the time. I'd go to mcdonalds and order mcdoubles with no ketchup and throw away the buns, drink coke zero, order baocnators from wendy's with no ketchup no buns,, five guys, chipotle bowls, pork rinds dipped in a 0 carb cheese dip, quest bars, cesar salads with no croutons, steak, smoked ribs, pulled pork, brisket, blue diamond almonds, wings, cold cuts, cheese, fathead pizza. I ate all that shit until I got adapted and kicked sugar and eventually got sick of "junk food" and just started making simple meals at home, and appreciating greens a lot more Salmon and hollandaise sauce with asparagus, steak and mushrooms, cobb salads, broiled chicken thighs and roasted broccoli, eggs and bacon, boiled eggs, texas style chili, just random salads of whatever greens and meat I have around, sausage with peppers and onions.

It's hard to overeat without carbs, that's why keto works. Same with low fat diets, the foods on keto just taste netter to me than low fat meals.

Renember, weight is just a number. If you are eating under your TDEE you are losing fat which is what's important.

When is your time window?
IF shines in the morning, the body should be fasted for a decent amount of hours and eating your meal in the morning ruins it, hell the body produces HGH fasted within the first hours of being wake.
IF is just for hunger control if you eat in the morning, I recommend eating your meal before bed, the feast is awesome and allows you to sleep comfortably.
