You don't need surgery to get them removed. The doctor sticks it with a thick syringe and sucks the fluid out of it which, yeah, sucks but it's a straightforward fix.

I had one in my left hand. Everytime I moved my middle finger the ganglion would get stuck and it would hurt like hell.
I got surgery and that helped. There's only a small chance it will go away on its own.

not true. I had mine removed in high school and it's yet to return, been fifteen years. surgery has a high success rate of fully removing it
