Do you use a food scale that measure to 0.1g accuracy? Or just to 1g accuracy? I recently bought the accuweigt that goes up to 5kg. Decent so far. Took a bit to calibrate

I use to the nearest 1g. A gram is so small anyways that being a few over or under is not going to impact you in the slightest.

Hello. Due to a sedentary lifestyle and poor posture I find myself completely unable to keep my back straight when doing pendlay rows. My upper back is constantly rounded and I have terrible hunchback. Any tips on how to fix this and are there any exercises I can do instead of rows while I fix it? I'm suspecting part of it is because of my hammies being super inflexible.

First off, you gotta start stretching and practicing sitting correctly.

Second, the best way to fix your form is to keep lifting.

>also, the general shape is so strange and there's literally a gap between the “inwards-curve between glutes and hamstrings“ and the bottom of the pants.

I've heard of good online stores, but I'm european and don't really want to order from overseas, so maybe someone can recommend a brand that makes pants for a more muscular butt in europe. The one pair I have is from Terranova and it really only fits, because it's pretty stretchy. I really dislike high waisted things, so that has also lowered my chances of finding something

I've been trying to get my bro to go to the gym for a year and it's been like trying to pull teeth.
We're both almost 30 and it's not like you can start from scratch all your life.

The thing is that I honestly have no idea what he does with his time. Gets off work at 4 and goes to bed at 10-11. He doesn't watch TV, read, play video games, or go outside.
>>
>>42416577
Find some core exercises that can work for you
I got like four I've been doing this past month or so
1-bicycles (like crunches, one elbow touches the opposite knee back and forth)
2 bring my legs up in the the air and back down(lying on back bring legs to a near stand then back down with out touching the ground)
3- figure 8s with my legs were I swing them around in a sideways 8 fashion
4- push-ups but I also bing one leg to the side twisting my waist a bit then switch my leg for each push up
Sounds like a lot but it's fairly simple and doesn't cause crazy gains just tone desu

Any point in worrying about macros if you're already eating at a deficit?

yes. Not eating enough protein will lead to muscle loss. Best way to preserve muscle is lift and eat plenty of protein. Also should try and keep sugar intake low.

>>
Question for this thread: Iam in an LTR for 2 years now , sex has been great and consistent up until like 2 months ago. We have sex maybe 1-2 times a week when it used to be 5-6. Ever time I intiate its rejected by "too tired" "I stink" or "I don't feel good" or stress from work makes her anxious. It's getting increasingly frustrating and I don't know if I became to available to her where I need to start doing things on my own while forgetting to make plans with her. She's still emotionally receptive , tells me everyday she's on cloud 9 in love with me but the sex is becoming sparse. starting to feel more like a friend than a lover.

Where do I go lads? Do I dread game her and just start doing shit on my own? Or should I communicate this that I need more sex or else ultimatum ?
>>
Whenever I do barbell row, I feel a light cramp on my elbow that goes up to my fingers. It's super annoying as it keeps happening whenever I pull up.

Why does this happen? Do I need to stretch more or do certain exercises?
>>
Will my strength go up if I'm eating at maintenance and lifting? I have late novice/early intermediate numbers and I'm tired of looking like shit. If I lost 3-4% body fat I would look better. I'm starting Candito's hypertrophy LP and he does not recommend cutting, but eating at maintenance. I feel like I'll be spinning my tires by doing this - not progressing strength wise and not losing fat quickly

Giving people a book is the best way to absolve yourself of responsibility for their actions. If they ask questions, ask if they've read the book. If they haven't, ask what they want your help for. Once they've read it, they're at least somewhat committed.

no reason to do any accessory daily.

Lowerback and Quads. Should have almost no usage of the upper back or arms.

>>
>>42417913
Suggested is between 150-300ml depending on how much you want to taste powder

>>
>>42417970
I check out the guide each time before I do barbell rows, but it keeps happening. For the record, it does happen whenever I pull heavy weights in general with my arms, but it's more prominent with barbell row.

Are mass building supplements a waste of money? Obviously real food is the best option, but should I use a mass gainer over whey to supplement my diet? If so, any brand recommendations? I'm 5'9" 130lbs, 32 y/o. Finally ready to overcome my littleness.

>>42416043
Lower the weight

It's tendon impingement.

I don't have it happen as much when I use an EZ bar
>>
>>42418045
>Are mass building supplements a waste of money?
Yes. It's usually just sugar and whey with some powdered supplements thrown in. You can easily overcome "not eating enough" by just adding in snacks between meals. Nuts are perfect for this: Calorie dense and not too filling.

What would be procedure for a leanbulk? I'm 6'1 and 152lbs, lift four days a week so far
>>
>>42418239
no. Just stop bulking when you hit 18%. If you're concerned about losing muscle just cut at a smaller deficit.
>>
>>42418287
Eat at a 200-300 calorie surplus.
>>
>>42418284
Not sure.
Persistence I guess, but without pushing it too hard. Don't want tendinitis.
Try the EZ bar thing. Or maybe widen your grip?

I feel the same pinchey feeling if I do close gripped pronated seated rows.
>>
I weight 160 but I can only bench 60 max and that's like one rep when I barely move it. I struggle to do a 10 rep set where I actually pull down to my chest clean with 50. I tried clean reps with 55 and pulled something.

What social circles should I get myself involved in to get some gear? I don't know where to start. It's kind of like when I was in Catholic school and I really wanted to get my hands on pot, a lot of people do it but it's frustrating to find out who.
>>
>>42418365
you absolutely do not need gear at this point. Your form is the issue with your bench. I am also a benchlet at 167 bodyweight and can only 3x5 130. But I managed to improve my bench through form.

getting back on fitness (and /fit/, shit helps) after a year of dealing with other dumb shit. 171cm/93kg, looking to lose weight first. Current goals are 87.5 by end of Sep, 82 by mid-Nov, 78 by the new year, 73 by Valentine's.

Starting with just doing hour long walks every day, going to try to bump that up to moderate cycling/doing C25K over the next week as my energy returns and some blisters heal. Also gradually adding bodyweight/resistance band training, and probably some mountain hiking. Don't have access to a gym.

General comments/shaming/insults aside, looking for rules I should set for myself. Cutting out sugary drinks (which I don't have much anyway), junk food, also just generally trying to eat a lot less and waste a lot less money on food. Unfortunately I won't have access to a kitchen for the next two or three months at least, and not great options for healthy food. Eating out tips would be appreciated too. Live in a walk-up, but also want to get in the habit of taking stairs everywhere else.

tl;dr any rules you set for yourself beyond obvious 'don't eat shit foods' and 'eat less food'?

I was reading recently about how dissociated we are with beds and sleep. This is why you'll hear some people say they can't sleep without their phone or tv before bed. It'll be hard to correct, but stick with something like reading a book or nothing before bed and eventually you'll create this association.

PR WAS 300 three months ago, it might be a combination of me twisting my abdomen and my weakening back muscles. I'll ask my doctor about the possibility of an anterior pelvic tilt and in the mean time do deads with 142 to try and prevent further deterioration.

>Weight gain without increased food intake is in fact a strikingly consistent observation in many animal model studies on artificial sweeteners (8, 9, 10).

Basic thermodynamics don't support that, im assuming that by "food" they mean "calories".

What could be said is that artificial sweetners distort the perception of sweetness in food, making ingesting sugar loaded food feel pretty normal.
>>
>>42420693
>believing Forbes
Explain why the studies it cites are flawed or the way in which it misapplies them.
>>
Why is it so fucking hard to progress on OHP vs other exercises?
>>
>>42420999
>Broscience doesn't support that
The body isn't some magical machine that makes perfect use of every single calorie you eat. Every single artificial sweetener that with a significant body of research affects body chemistry in a way that eventually results in more fat being stored. "A calorie is a calorie" is as much of a myth as the rational consumer.

>>
>>42421415
>>42421452
Not him but, for an increase in weight to happen there must be a net caloric gain, aspartame has very low caloric density therefore its unlikely that the weight gain is cause by it.

Now, studies show a correlation between artificial sweetner consumption and weight increase, correlation, not causation. The reason for this correlation could be very complicated from the view point of bio chemistry or rather simple if you realize that top consumers of artificial sweetners happen to be people who are more often than not overweight/prone to gain weight due to unhealthy lifestyles.

>for an increase in weight to happen there must be a net caloric gain
Once again
>Weight gain without increased food intake is in fact a strikingly consistent observation in many animal model studies on artificial sweeteners (8, 9, 10).
Feeding an organism nothing but aspartame will obviously kill it, rather than make it gain weight, but if two rats/humans eat an otherwise identical amount of calories the one with aspartame will be fatter. The obvious explanation is that the aspartame changes what the body does with the energy in its food.

>Thermodynamics is bro science
The way it's being applied in this thread is broscience and with your inability to process information I'm wondering the same about you.
>>
>>42421539
>Weight gain without increased food intake is in fact a strikingly consistent observation in many animal model studies on artificial sweeteners (8, 9, 10).

For this sentence to mean what you say it would also mean that the two subjects have different caloric expenditure, which is NOT stated. You can not simply gain weight just because.

> but if two rats/humans eat an otherwise identical amount of calories the one with aspartame will be fatter.

Suppose that both subjects have the same caloric surplus, are you stating that the one fed aspartame will retain more fat in relation to the measured caloric surplus? (Note that by calorie surplus i mean after total caloric expenditure)

What if the subjects are not fed a caloric surplus? Do neither of them gain weight? This one is pretty much one we have to agree on, they would not gain weight.

Yes, they need to be fed a sufficient amount of calories in order to gain weight and eating a small number of calories will cause weight loss even if the calories consumed are low enough (see Twinkie diet). The point where this falls apart is when it's used to justify the notion that 100 calories of bread is the same as 100 calories of celery or 0 calories of diet coke is the same as 0 calories of water. The calories in some food require less energy to be stored as fat. Some foods spike blood sugar shortly after being eaten, causing an insulin reaction, while others increase it slower and more evenly. Various 0 calorie substances affect metabolism (eg paprika) or change the subject's energy level (eg caffeine). For some reason though it's heresy when you suggest that sweeteners might also affect the body in a way that causes weight gain. I don't know exactly what each one of these sweeteners do, but I inducing lethargy (lower expenditure), reducing base metabolism (lower expenditure) or stimulating release of cortisol (shifting energy into fat storage) would all make sense.

>What if the subjects are not fed a caloric surplus? Do neither of them gain weight?
The one eating aspartame would lose less weight.
>>
>>42421778
>eating a small number of calories will cause weight loss even if the calories consumed are low enough (see Twinkie diet).

I'd imagine some would say cut till you're happy but please try and answer in relation to the premise of it being "bad for hormones" if possible. Or share a point in the right direction for me to read up on it myself.

Thanks in advance.

Kind of agree with this anon. Pendlay rows always felt strange for me and didn't work my back very well IMO. I prefer t-bar rows, one arm rows, or cable rows.
>>
>>42425355
considering you're recovering from surgery your body may pull out some energy from muscle preservation. Eating plenty of protein will help regardless.

>>42422624
if you're eating correctly and lifting, you'll be gaining muscle and fat. Skinnyfat will not be an option.

>>42422720
It depends on you if you want to socialize. Most people tend to go there for themselves.

>>42422843
you're not pooing out gains; it doesn't work that way. Your body absorbs basically all nutrition from every piece of food you eat. The non-usable parts get turned into piss and poo. If you find that week-to-week you aren't gaining any weight, you likely are miscalculating how much you are supposed to eat.

>>42423470
Sounds fine.

>>42424381
Each session with curls is excessive. Also, just stick to the program for the first few months, don't add on accessories at first. This is a program: It's made to be followed.

Working into sets is simple. Just find someone who's relatively around your squatting weight and ask if you can do your sets in-between.

Essentials are being clothed in the gym and not slamming your weights like a dumbass. Nothing else matters. You probably don't need creatine if you're just starting.

>>42425498
sounds like broscience desu. People regularly bulk and cut for 3-4 month periods with a 2-4 week grace period in-between.

So I'm trying to program for myself and this is what I came up with. I workout 3 days a week. FBW.

Workout A:

Squats 5x5
Barbell row 5x8+ superset with BP 5x8+
Dumbell row 4x10
Incline dumbell press 4x10
Prowler

Workout B:

Deadlifts 5x5
OHP 5x5
Dips 5xF
Chinups 5xF
Barbell curl 4x10
Prowler

Any suggestions on what to implement or switch between workouts?
>>
Today I decided to press with dumbbells just because(used 20kgs) however my left side had a considerable harder time, should I be worried that I'm bad at dumbbell benching pressing with my left side? I'm right handed and I know the right side of my entire body is stronger, but never like this. Would pressing more with dumbbells solve this problem and probably help with my bench and other forms of pressing?
>>
>>42426352
I doubt the asymmetry is affecting your lifts too much. Everyone is asymmetrical in terms of strength in some capacity. It can't hurt to even out your strength though.
>>
>>42425649
What are your lifts, whats your body weight, height and goals?
Without knowing those i can't really say anything about this program, its probably more volume than you would need to progress but i'm not sure until i get those other metrics.
>>
>>42426404

95kg, 180cm, gaining mass until winter.
Squat 110kgx8, DL 120x5, BP 90x5, BR 70x5, OHP 60x5.
>>
>>42424644
Yes you should progress linearly until you no longer can. Fractional plates are helpful for this. Once you tap out on your linear gains you can run an intermediate type program like the texas method. I'm not a huge fan of stronglifts though. Its just a shitter version of starting strength, the 5x5 rep scheme is a little too much volume generally for a novice. If you can progress with less volume you may as well do less volume.
>>
>>42426438
This program will work fine then, its not the best for either building strength for bodybuilding purposes but its fine. Id reccomend running something a little more tried and true like TM but it's all up to you
>>
How are you supposed to breathe during deadlifts?
>>
>>42426484
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcY3YSW9vX4
This should be practiced for every compound lift, not just deadlifts
>>
>>42426476
I was thinking about 5/3/1 rather than TM to be fair.
>>
>>42426518
I think 5/3/1 is one of the worst intermediate programs out there honestly. Frequency is non existent and wendler didn't even run the program.
>>
>>42426590

I know this is no argument to make, but Alan Thrall recommended it for strength gains, so I investigated it. Looked pretty solid for me, I don't mind spending 4 days a week in the gym. Didn't know about Wendler not having done it himself, but I heard nothing but praise about the routine.

Will I break my fast if i take take coffee + 5g of creatine?

Help me /fit/ I'm losing my gains.

I managed to slim down from 221 to 178 since last year and put on over 12 lbs of muscle. My cut is finally over and I'm trying to maintain the new weight but I keep losing more unfortunately. Was eating 1800 - 2100 cals a day for 4 months during cut (went from 197 to 178) and now eating about 2650 cals a day. Over 3 weeks I've been at this level of eating and yet I managed to lose a pound. I do cardio once a week for 25 minutes so it's not excessive. I workout three times a week and my macro split is usually 45/30/25 (carb, fat, protein).

What am I doing wrong?

So should I just do SS lads? Will my arm growth be lacking? I did ICF 5x5 for a little while before, My lifts weren't anything dramatic but I was looking aesthetic as fuck.

Can I expect to see much quicker weight progression with SS? What about cardio on off days how should I do it? Like I said I'm interested in swimming, cycling, running or rock climbing on off days, how should I structure it?

on a cut how does a one day off one day on push pull sound?
so like heavy pull x heavy push x light/moderate pull x light/moderate push x and so on
just squats on push day for legs cuz theyre pretty ahead from the rest

yes, do SS. If you want to grow your arms add in chin ups and curls if you want. ICF is a shitty ripoff of SL and SL is a shitty rip off of SS. SS is definitely the way to go here

I've read about this in an anatomy book; what's happening is your bones have reossified into the position they are most commonly in. The solution to that is just maintaining good posture at all times, it'll fix itself over time.
Chest supported or any machine row should be fine, they'll only have a slight carryover to regular barbell row but you'll still be getting some strength and the same hypertrophy
good luck bb luv u

Is there a decent beginner 7 day split?
I currently have a really nice schedule in my life.

>Wake up at 7am.
>Run for 30 minutes.
>Lift and do some PT/stretches
>Shower and dress
>Breakfast
>Go to class/study

Problem being, I'm having trouble finding stuff to do during the lifting time slot 7 days a week. But if I don't lift, I tend to feel low on energy and weak all day, and it just makes me run behind on EVERYTHING.

But I'm not even an intermediate lifter. Probably not even novice.

I bench, row, OHP, and because of some bad knees, do physical therapy for everything lower body.

I can do the lower body stuff every single day. It's all isometric work and bodyweight stuff for like 30 reps.

But I cannot bench, row, and ohp every day for 7 days. So what else can I do?

I don't have fuckin time.

Pic related is my schedule. The dark blocks are classes. The light blocks are study time I've carved out. (I feel for the engineering meme.)
Even if the 3 hours of studying per credit meme is fake, nowhere in the rest of the day can I squeeze in a hobby.

And nothing I do in that lifting time slot works for me but lifting.
A hobby takes time I don't currently have.

If I check social media, 4chan, the news, etc, during that time, I run the risk of getting distracted and being late.

If I try to play a game or something, I have trouble pulling myself away.

Plus I want to ingrain the habit of jumping out of bed and jogging and lifting so I can do it for years to come. Otherwise, I struggle to get out of bed.

And finally, I have to do PT at some point during the day, as my knees are slowly improving and I want to get back to squats and DLs, so I might as well do some other lifting in there.

I've got some mid-back pain on one side, I think it was the squats that did it. Improper bracing?

When I bench I feel as if I'm working my triceps a lot harder than my chest, how do I fix this?
>>
>>42429974
Widen your grip.

Bench Press 101:
The narrower the grip, the greater the emphasis is placed on your triceps.
The wider the grip, the more emphasis is placed on your chest.

iirc a balanced grip is slightly wider than your shoulders and uses triceps and pectorals about equally. Moving out increases chest reliance. Moving in increases tricep reliance.

They also have a lot of protein and fiber. Oats are a great dietary choice in general. Just be careful about adding sugar and shit to them. If you need to enhance their flavor, salt, butter, fresh fruit, etc is commonly used. I know a guy who puts peanut butter and jelly in his and swears by it.

im making my first oly prgram
but i dont know anythnig about what rep ranges to use which dats, and which percentages for which day. how do you do this?
>>
>>42430096
I think it depends on you, but personally started using it when I hit 3pl8 on deads and squats. People saying that you'll get a weaker core is bs, a belt allows you to brace your core harder, so if anything, it could help, provided you do over core work as well
>>
>>42426674
Personally recommend it, but it's mostly because I like the upper/lower split, it's also pretty customizable if you read the books (can easily find a pdf online) tho 5/3/1 is the only intermediate program I've done so far so I don't have too much experience

Is breakfast a meme? Can I skip it and go straight to lunch instead?
>>
>>42428762
>>42428780
It's okay bb no worries, I can try to answer your question
A 7 day split would be interesting, I guess you could have an active rest day instead of just a rest day. If you want to lift every day I'd recommend a PPLPPL and then whatever you want to do on the last day, perhaps just have it another Pull day or practice oly lifts maybe. Try to limit the volume/intensity you do because you'll wear yourself out going 100% every day.
There's a lot of info on PPLs out there, they're pretty fun but the strength gains are lacking compared to fullbody strength programs. I suppose they do make up for it in some good hypertrophy. Good luck anon, luv u
>>
>>42430756
The "most important meal of the day" shit is a meme. Or more like propaganda from a cereal company or the egg industry, iirc.

You can skip, and there are some benefits and drawbacks to it.
Easier to get calories and spaced protein intake with the extra meal.
It can boost your energy through mid-day and late day, etc.
If you do anything demanding, you need the fuel. Laborers, athletes, even people in brain-draining pursuits like mathematicians and students should probably have something in the morning because the brain burns tons of calories.

However, mounting evidence suggests that restricting your meal times is better for longevity and health, even if it's not great for performance. Limiting meals helps limit calories, and even if you don't, those hours spent without having had a recent meal seem to be healthiest.

However, dinner is also a meme under these same circumstances. Some are speculating that humans may be at their best in terms of health when they eat only one meal a day, typically around mid-day to early afternoon. Eat 1500+ calories at mid-day and you'll probably feel fine until that night, at which point you can eat a small snack like a handful of nuts or a small bowl of cottage cheese. Breakfast, if you're hungry the next morning, could be another such snack, or maybe a single scrambled eff, or an apple.

Either way, you get your main calories mid-day and sort of fast for the rest of it.

How do can I cope with huge intervals of no food if I'm at home?
When working or doing something else it's fine but at home it's always hitting me, especially at night.

I already eat 3x day and usually have like 7hours difference from dinner to after work snack
>>
>>42430877

I usually lift in the morning but the problem is I have absolutely no appetite during the morning so I always skip breakfast. But since it's generally better to take some carbs before workout for energy, is it okay to take like a oats milk shake right before bed the previous night?
>>
>>42430942
Do something to take your mind off it, or just snack on something filling.

For me, I might slice a tomato and eat that, or do the cottage cheese with some berries thrown in, or if I've been experiencing a trend in being hungry, I'll just save some of my lunch for a snack when I do get hungry again.

Also, drinking helps sate hungry by filling your stomach a little bit.

>>42431017
I'm not sure, but I doubt it makes a difference. The previous night is so early that I'm sure the carbs would be stored as fat by the time you lifted anyhow. Your blood sugar would've long since returned to normal. You'd probably not get as tired between sets is all.

This is the issue with working out in the morning. I run into it as well. I just lift without bothering with a pre-workout.
