Being realistic, withouth starving how long it would take to go from 20% body fat to 15%? With diet alone, withouth considering exercises?
some data: I'm 5'7 and a little over 150 pounds (69 kg). I've used to be fat when I was a kid (216 pounds when I was 14, now I'm 28) and at the end of the last year (around october) I was around 185 pounds and finaly I'm starting to enjoy the way I look, still I have some love handles and I'm probably a little below 20% body fat but I think I can do better

0.5-1.0% a week

that fast? I was think something around 3 months with a 500 calories deficit, is that plausible? Or do I need to take out more calories?

A 500cal deficit results in a pound of fat loss a week, so 3 months of that would be about 12lbs of fat(plus a little muscle and some water weight). 12lbs is a good deal of fat for someone who weighs 150lbs.

Not OP, but is a 500 calorie deficit the best for muscle retention?
Or is muscle retention reliant on macros?

I wouldn't cut more than 20% out of your TDEE. For most people that's about 500 calories. You can certainly cut slower than that but it will obviously take longer. It is also important to make sure you keep getting 1g of protein per pound of bodyweight on a cut.

500 deficit is quite steep, assuming you're actually fit, a 250-350 deficit will be better.

If you got lots of muscle mass it's a bit high, but if you are more of a beginner you can go at it harder. It's good since it woks for everyone, but it's ideal for few.
