It's a cope. Sure you may look like shit, but the number you can lift goes up, basically turning your time in the gym into an ersatz IRL MMORPG. Hence why nerds get very into starting strength and powerlifting - it's internet counterculture, and doesn't require the discipline and cutting that aesthetics demand.
