If I can do 40x20 on dumbbell bench, should I also be able to do 80x10 since 40x20=80x10=800?
It was recently shown that there is no significant difference between the two

But how come when I go to the gym, I can't actually even 1 rep 80s while I can do 40x20?

>why can't I carry this bag of two tons of sand when i can easily carry it one cup at a time??

also false
myoelectric studies have proven the optimal rep range for hypertrophy is 6 to 10 reps for most muscle groups
>>42380375
That's not a very good analogy. I don't think it would be easy to pick up a ton of sand one cup at a time either.
>>42380473
It'd take a long time but anyone could easily do it if given enough time.
>>42380379
were these studies done on people who never worked out?
>>42380485
It's obviously assumed that you would be picking up cup after cup without any breaks since that's how lifting works...you wouldn't sit down to drink a cup of lemonade between pick ups. There's no way that would be an easy task

Of course there is a difference or bodybuilders wouldn't use such high rep ranges and high volume.
Low volume, low rep, long pauses = best for strength.
High rep, high volume, short pauses = best for gains.

>one workout takes 30 minutes
>one workout takes 3 hours
That alone is significant
It's all about preference honestly. I know people on both sides of the aisle that have made great gains.
