Pull ups vs chin ups

Pullups are a great back exercise. If you start from dead hang, lift yourself up, hold and go down slowly by defying gravity, your lats and shoulders will feel a good burn.

Chin ups also work lats, but your biceps work much more.

Ideally, do as many pullups as you can with proper range of motion, and follow up with some explosive chin ups to really burn the lats trough.

How is it wrong? biggest muscle engaged when I do chin ups are my biceps. I can't even do pull ups right now because I weigh too much, but can do chin ups.

We need a god damn better name for these two because they are too easy to confuse.

You absolutely need both if you want thickness throughout the whole back.

The "overhand" version should done strictly in the neutral width position with all emphasis on the slow negative. You should do even more variation of the underhand version in different hand/body positions i.e. one arm horizontal version if you want mid lats to grow.

no it doesn't. as long as you do chinups at more reps/ high weights.

chinups work biceps brachii a better. biceps brachii is in mechanical disadvantage during pronation like in the pullup. pullups still work brachioradialis and brachialis hard so no matter which one you do your elbow flexors get a workout. Both work your lats hard, and secondary back muscles, the differences are pretty insignificant (pullups activate your back muscles a little bit more because they have to compensate for a weaker biceps).

It makes more sense to do chinups (at higher weight/reps) because it's a more complete exercise, but it's up to you and whatever you like.

I do it like this:
4 sets of weighted pull ups
2-3 sets of weighted chin ups
1-2 sets of hammer chin ups

Hardest to easiest to squeeze out all my strength
,made my lats really blow up.
