Eat clean and walk/hike for free + the cost of shoes. Geocache to make it more fun. Cross country ski during winter. You get strong in the gym and thin in the kitchen :^)

If you've been eating ad libitum, just eat more nutrient dense foods ad libitum and you'll settle at a lighter equilibrium with no additional effort.

H=N/C, or Healthy Life Expectancy equals Nutrition divided by Calories :^)

Exercise does help a lot though. You just won't lose significant weight only exercising and not changing the composition of your diet.

Pick your local 24 hour gym and go with that one. It's incredibly comfy to be the only one in the gym, before the rest of the world wakes up.
