honestly every fucking source contradicts the other. Will drinking diet soda keep me fat? I eat +/- 1800 calories a day and cant lose weight.

Diet soda is just as bad or worse than real soda real talk.

You fucking autistic limp dicked virginic homosex porn connoisseur retard, I will explain to you exactly how you will instantly lose weight
Stop eating everything immediately other than water, and no you won't die because when you water fast you don't lose muscle or get sick and/or die unless you're literally fucking anorexic, since you claim to be a fat boy your body will burn the fat and thus decreasing your weight/blubber. If you manage to do the water fast whenever you feel light headed or dizzy put a pinch of salt on your tongue to prevent Hyponatremia. I wish you luck. You also need to have a mindset for this. I recommend reading about water fasting.

>drink water
>don't drink soda
Nobody is forcing you to drink soda. Nobody is forcing you to consume 1800+ calories daily.
Drink only water. Burn off those 1800+ calories. You will lose weight.
How is this concept so difficult for people to comprehend? You are physically incapable of generating matter from nothingness; if fat people really could do that, oil companies would be harvesting fatties for their physics-defying lard.

artificial sweeteners still trigger insulin, a lot of it. you're still spiking your blood sugar like a motherfucker and promoting weight gain. the acidity is also dogshit for your gut bacteria.
>>42320406
Here's the low down. Sweeteners have no calories. Theoretically you wouldn't gain weight eating them. However in clinical tests people on sweeteners don't seem to lose weight any better. This could be either be because of other factors (e.g. People who drink diet drinks think they can reward themselves with more food) OR it could be that sweeteners affect some poorly understood biological mechanism that makes one gain weight, perhaps by turning more calories into fat.
No one really knows the actual answer, and anyone purporting to is a liar.
Ultimately we only know they have no calories, and yet don't seem to reduce weight in many clinical trials. It's up to you what to make of that information. Perhaps the trials are just badly run and if you don't overcompensate with other food, you will lose weight.
Only one thing is completely certain - it won't harm you to quit altogether, and this DOES help people lose weight

No you are actually both talking out your arses. Show me a clinical study that shows aspartamine leading to insulin spike.
>>42322324
Also going to have to ask for source of data, backing this anon up
I drink a decent amount of diet soda a week, no "real" soda anymore though
Citations that aspertime does not spike insulin

Iunno. I lift/run everyday. I have been drinking diet soda for the last 3 months and have put on 10 lbs. I stopped drinking it 4 days ago and am down 3 lbs. So who knows.

MY MAN THANK YOU
ILL KEEP ON SIPPING MY COKE ZERO NOW

Not so fast. Insulin isn't everything.
Here is an introductory read explaining aspartame might make you fat anyway.

That's just in mice tho
But thanks for keeping me honest. I'll try to cut back on this habit, and shift to water

True, we don't exactly know how things work with humans
Studies such as
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/3190220/
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/9022524/?i=2&from=/3190220/related
Suggests it helps with weight loss
Other reviews
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2892765/
Suggest there could be issues with trying to lose weight in this way. Bear in mind this last review is more recent, but also doesn't blame aspartame itself for weight gain per se
As I said earlier, the safest option is to just drink water except in rare occasions.

I've mostly given soda up now, but when I was a teen I switched to diet (without eating twice as much food like an idiot) and I did lose weight. Like a significant 20 pounds or so.
>>42323053
If it works for you great. But be aware your choice to stop drinking soda and be more healthy could have been what caused the weight loss, not the change to diet soda itself
i am convinced the people who say "diet soda is LITERALLY WORSE THAN REGULAR SODA" are just shills trying to get you to buy the bottled water, which you can get for free in your own home.
There are no studies in the past 5 years that show diet soda makes you gain weight, have absurd insulin spikes or any of that other shit broscientist say happens.
I know that it's bad by virtue that it's garbage that isn't water, but I thought the deal with "diet" soda was more mental.
>I can rationalize consuming MORE calories because I had my diet soda sippies today
