Last night I had a nightmare that my meet was tomorrow and I'm currently wrecked from heavy deadlifts on Wednesday and 15 sets of bench yesterday. Today I woke up and remembered it isn't for 3 more weeks.

Just squat or deadlift, press, and then do accessories every day.

For squat, deadlift, or bench just work up to a hard top set of 1-3 reps, then drop some weight and do sets for volume.

With 40mins per workout, I would choose 1 main exercise (s, b, d, p, sth like that) and follow whatever progression protocol you want, however not one that has you do an absurd amount of sets. Something with 3-4 sets, very efficient, possibly involving an amrap. This should take max 30-35 mins. Then choose 1-2 fluff exercises (lat pulldown, triceps extension, curls, you know the drill) and perform rest pause type sets. 1 set of 8-15 reps, rest 30-60sec, another set, repeat. Most efficient way to jam lots of bodybuilding volume in the shortest possible timeframe imho. In total it might take 5mins to do a handful of sets of 1 movement, so 5-10mins total. Entire workout: 40 mins.

I'm currently following tunas three day split, so I'm doing warmup sets followed by 3 sets of 6-8 of the primary exercise (i.e. bench) followed by secondary stuff (weighted dips, 3×6-8 incline barbell) and then accessories if I have any time to spare (incline dumbbell, cable extensions, etc). I do core at home 3 times a week.
So pretty similar to your suggestion I think. I'm having trouble with squats and deads though, i feel like those need more time since they're so form intensive. That may just be a head game though.

I heard a good piece of advice for this kind of problem a while back. "Do what you suck at." It's basically a sign from your body that you have low-hanging fruit to grab. I've been doing higher reps on my main lifts and gaining steadily.

Conditioning is good, it seems that I lose energy and motivation to grind out reps early on when dead lifting, everything feels so damn heavy and any form deviation just adds to the paranoia.

I want to work on it but I've been lacking the motivation, no doubt it. Tomorrow was my pull day, so perhaps I'll dedicate the hour to deadlifts.

Any ideas on some rep schemes to try? See which I feel comfortable doing?

People call me crazy, but I really like doing high rep deadlifts with back down sets. 10-15 reps, rest, match reps with (5% of your max) less weight, rest, match reps with another 5% less.

E.g. 12@275, 12@255, 12@235 for a 405 max (sorry, it's in freedom units).

If you're concerned about form, don't do this, though. Consider speed work (maybe 10x1@60% with short rests, 30s ish) or paused deadlifts. The goal is to reinforce the right motor pattern so those 1x5 sets go smoother.

By the way, you mention it being your pull day... PPL (like most bodypart splits) isn't well-suited to training for power, because the big lifts use pretty much the whole body. You'll end up working the same muscles two or three days in a row, which slows or stops progress.

I'm gonna try out both recommendations in this post, I meant that tomorrow is a special day I've dedicated, outside of my normal scheduling, to pick up and practise deadlifts again.

Both ideas are interesting, I particularly like the sound of speed work more though, especially as form is my biggest let down at the moment. Seeing what I'm comfortable with will help me get back into the groove of doing deadlifts, at least, I hope so.

Today I had the worst and most pathetic training session of my life, I hope I never excperience this again. I had to skip squats because of my back, likewise with deadlifts. I'm honestly considering just dropping my current training to pursue it, which is kind of a shock to me. I've never been one to program-hop, and strength training has always been my focus... but it just felt too good for me to not make it a regular part of my training.

DC ("Doggcrapp") training is what I've been looking at, and it's what led me to rest-pause. It's a bodybuilding program that revolves around high intensity and changing exercises for constant progression. So as soon as you can't outdo a record on, say, squats, you swap to leg press or hack squats or something. You can still get strong like ox, but you don't focus on the big three.

Now I see. I didn't read it as your mindset being powerlifting, so I didn't understand the sentence.

It's compatible in the way that it can be used for hypertrophy blocks, and applying the principle to accessory and supplementals can also work, though as you've found, it can be at the expense of your strength. This is where a variant of rest-pause, i.e. myo-reps, can be handy. It's basically the same thing, but a more autoregulated approach.

Here's a Poutine watch update lads

Meet is in one week and two days and I'm just recovering from my sickness; I'm still feeling quite shitty and week.

This training week was a total write off. Didn't hit a single single which were all calculated at 95% for worksets, so I've scaled back my attempts for the meet as my main goal is to qualify for regional standard and go 9/9.

Openers next Tuesday, light day Thursday, meet day Sunday. Water loading begins next Wednesday.

Raw, Open, Mens 93kg. This will be my fourth meet, and hopefully my third podium.

If anyone has any questions about their first meet, or what I'm up to, I'll stick around for a bit, but after this I'll probably disappear until after the meet.
