A little known trick I sometimes use, you can also descend flights of stairs. You don't even have to go up them first if you start at the top.

For cardio they work great. I tend to just do HIIT for cardio. When I don't do sprints or hill sprints I'll use the stair master. It will smoke the dogshit out of you if you do 60 seconds full effort 120 seconds at a slow recovery pace. They're definitely not a meme if you want your heart to feel like it's jumping out of your chest.
