Hey /fit/,

For the entry tests for the army I need to run an incremental run of 2km in 10 minutes. I've only started running since a week ago, and my progress is going a bit slow. (literally)

Do you guys have any tips on how to improve? Any schedules you used? I really don't want to fail this test, because if I do, I'll need to wait another 10 months before I can apply again.

Interval training a best for this kind of thing. Short bursts for a brief time. Look into it, C25K should help, try to push your speed.

Where are you from, anon? I want to get in as well, but in my country we have to run a sub-24' 5k (preferably sub-22')

Thanks, will try it on my run later

Belgium. It's the easiest of all their tests, since I'm trying to get in as a weapons specialist, tinkering and maintaining small arms and heavier support guns.

Regular infantry also need to run a 5k, and para-commando's have to do it uphill.

2km in 10 min is doable. My "fitness officer" in the army did research and testing on the best way to train for our running test (3k) for her masters degree and came to the conclusion that the best way to train for it was to just do the run. Basically just time yourself, go all out and try to beat your last record. Of course this fucking sucks if you do it every day so she also suggested doing weighted squats and calf raises. General cardio helps as well.

At the end of my stint in the army we were gonna do another test to like see how much we improved over the course and I basically did the actual run 3 times a week, going all out, and the other days I did squats and other leg exercises. Worked pretty well.
Ended up doing the 3k at 11:13, puked after crossing the finish line tho :/

Milfag here.

How much time do you have to get ready?

The pft is mostly an endurance test, tbqh. Sure it's no afpt test (where they can practically jog for 13 min and pass), but at the end of the day you're running 2km.

Start by getting your form straight. Go read up on running form. Improper form wastes energy, and on a distance run every bit matters, especially if you're gonna ride the line.

Run at 180 bpm. Less than than that isn't running, and you're losing energy by being in contact with the ground for too long. I train whole listening to 180 bpm music. I take my pfts listening to the same tracks.

Run a lot. There's no easy way about it. If you want good times, you have to put in the miles.

Be careful not to give yourself shin splints. I did basic on shin splints without telling a soul and it was a nightmare.

Sprints are supposed to help. I don't know, I've always just got on the track and run as hard as I could until I was ready to drop or it was time to go home.

Kek I've been to Belgium two years ago for an army reserves competition. Go air force and enjoy beer-specialised bars on the airbase. All jokes aside, good luck man. Your guns look sweet as hell and life as a weapon specialist looks pretty cool, getting to fingerfuck FNCs, MAGs and the like all day. Good luck!

>>42252444
I'll try this, thanks dude!
>>
How much do you weigh OP? I don't run that often but a 10 min 2k run isn't hard at all, that's literally jog speed

> Basically just time yourself, go all out and try to beat your last record.

Tbh that sounds brutal, but logical. I might as well get used to it.

> puked after crossing the finish line tho :/

Thank God it's not an eating contest :P

>How much time do you have to get ready?

Probably around a month. I have the medical checks next Monday, then character and psychological tests in two weeks.

The test itself is incremental, they bump up the speed every 30 seconds. Too bad my gym membership ended last month, so I can't simulate it.

Can I get away with running daily you think? Or should I go for 3-4 days a week.

>>42252495

95kg, but I'm almost 2m tall. Reasonably lean.

>>42252470

Were you at Kleine Brogel or something?
>>
>>42252529
So you're telling me that with your huge legs you're still having trouble running at 12kph (which is slightly above jog speed, my mistake) all while being "reasonably lean"?
Are you a chronic smoker or something?
>>

> Are you a chronic smoker or something?

I'm a pretty heavy smoker, yes. I also never did cardio, just lifting. And yes, I should quit, the extra oxygen can't hurt.
>>
>>42252529
I don't remember the place's name, I was there for like three days. As I remember it, it was either southwest or northeast of Brussels and not by a lot. The main language spoken there was definitely French.
>>
>>42252592
I smoked too before, I quit about a month before my 3k and it helped a lot. I wasn't a heavy smoker though, usually only 2-3 cigs a day, sometimes none.
>>
>>42252383
>I've only started running since a week ago
86 hours, 11 minutes is the fucking world record, yet you claim you ran for a week

fucking liar
>>
>>42252932
> 86 hours, 11 minutes
How the actual fuck.

>>42252918
Yeah might as well bite the bullet, would make basic easier anyway.

Thanks for the solid advice by the way, all of you.
