Has anyone ever tried dry needling for muscle pain?

I had a needle jabbed into my popliteus during physio after I strained it, shit was so cash

I had it done on my back, had several knots and it took about 3 of 4 sessions to get them out.
Shit works great, it however is one of the most unpleasant feelings i have ever felt. No pain, just really unnerving.

Hurt like fuck, and it felt and loved like I got hit by a baton for a couple of days.

But after that I felt great, lost the stiffness in that muscle.
