I'll kiss your ass if this was the average day for a Roman soldier. These are probably some of the most extreme instances of conditioning. The Roman military was full of untrained plebs, not to say that it was a bad military but that is like comparing your average Army recruit to a SEAL

Completely incorrect. When not trainig or on campaign the average soldier was building roads and digging ditches. They were a powerful labor force for the Empire.

18.4m/5h isn't a bad pace at all, especially for something as light as 60 pounds. It's just over a 16 minute/mile pace, Army infantry standard is 15 minute/mile, with varying equipment (which can be a lot more than 60 pounds, or a lot less, personally never rucked with less than 45 in my rucksack alone)
