the only reason i can think of is that more people can use the variety of dumbbells unless you bought the same number of handles that you had fixed dumbbells
but that doesnt seem like a very good reason because at no point is every dumbbell ever being used
so i dont know either

Have you seen the absolute mess of barbell plates in the average gym? That shit would be 50 times worse for dumbbells.

For a home gym plate loaded is the cheapest option though.

In my gym we just scavenge our weights from the nearest iron pile and nobody cares

>people stealing dumbells 10x easier

for a home gym they are preferrable though
