Where your hands go depends on the exercise, your proportions, your flexibility and your own preferences.
For instance I squat low bar with my pointers on the inner rings, I bench with my pinkies just inside the inner rings and I snatch with my hands halfway in between the outer rings and the collars on a barbell with Olympic measurements.
