Was reading an earlier thread. What is fits take on alcohol? If I stuck to spirits (generic 70cal a shot) and diet mixers am I okay? What about a 200cal pint. Do I really take in all those calories or just a proportion due to alcohol being excreted? Please fill me in, and with some scientific evidence of possible.

Im on a cut and have reduced all alcohol consumption, except on Saturdays when I want to go out and socialise at bars. I know people overeat when they drink, but I have been very strict recently and I am willing to drink tons of water before and after and prepare myself a healthy low calorie late night meal at the end so I don't binge. I can even account for it by doing extra cardio in the day time.

Please just generally fill me in on alcohol Vs body progress.
>>
Reposting previous question because i didn't get any answer.
Does alcohol have a specific impact on calorie intake?
For sure you gotta take into account the calorie of the drink but should you also cut back some more because of the effect of alcohol on your metabolism?
>>
>>42213834
Gains are going to be lost so that your body can recover from the alcohol

Anything outside of like 5oz of wine every other day because you are on the mediterranean diet for real is killing your gains
>>
>>42213931
See this is where I am confused. It says a shot is X amount of calories. But am I really taking in X amount or is my liver breaking down the alcohol and then I'm flushing it out, hence only absorbing a percentage of X?
Sorry anon I can't answer about the effects on metabolism. But from an uneducated guess as long as you are in the gym the day your drinking and the day after you should be able to raise your metabolism back up, assuming it slows it down.
>>
>>42213834
I have no idea about the calorie stuff, i'm pretty new here..
BUT, from my experience, and the reason i'm cutting down on all alcohol, is that i tend to eat wayy more junk food when i'm drunk. Also smoke and other bad stuff.
The day after drinking i never get myself to the gym either, so all in all, a pretty shitty idea to drink at all.
typing this slightlty tipsy
>>
>>42213834
Only drink spirits, don't get drunk.
>>
>>42213965
I'm moving towards my goal at a decent pace. I could not drink and get there faster but I like how things are going at the moment. I drink a little heavily one time a week. Every other day I'm 500+ defecit.
I just want to know the amount of calories I'm really consuming the night of.
>>
>>42213987
See I know the bad stuff around the drinking. I am accounting for it and limiting it. More cardio the day before. Will power to hit gym in morning. Lots of water night of and coffee to get going in the morning.

Now I'm interested in the calories of the drinks themselves.

Just don't drink
>>
>>42213989
I dedicate the night to drink and if i want to get drunk i will. But how bad are the drinks themselves?
>>
>>42213834
Alcohol is pretty much a total gains killer. If you want to drink, drink. Just don't be surprised that it works against you. I've read before that like 15-20% of the calories in alcohol is lost, but there's still the effects on your metabolism and hydration etc

Most drinks are just sugar and alcohol, your body isn't going to flush anything.
You just have to balance your diet knowing you'll drink or just accept the setback.

Considering the fact that alcohol is "literally" poison to your body, they are bad.

>way cheaper

>not bad for your liver/stomach/throat/etc

a much better option than alcohol
>>
>>42214069
Do you realise how unhelpful you are being or are you just being pedantic? I am asking about calories in this thread. Not health benefits. Clearly alcohol is not good for you in the long run, and it is better to not drink, but that is not what I am asking. Read the thread and the info I have asked for and stop commenting usless points.
>>
>>42214125
Unfortunately Im not a fan.
>>
>>42214125
Wtf are those?
>>
>>42214131
>Clearly alcohol is not good for you in the long run, and it is better to not drink,
So don't drink it then. If you're so worried about your calories, then eliminate a factor that could hinder your cut. If you can't live without alcoholic and are a 'weekend alcoholic', that's not my problem. If you're serious about your cut, you would learn some discipline and self-control and not drink alcohol.
>>
>college or newly 21 year old wonders if alcohol is bad for /fit/ness

If it's not your problem then don't answer the thread. Or answer what I have asked. If you want to project your feeling and opinions about the subject do it when asked.
Not everybody lives the same lifestyle yet your here trying to tell me to change my lifestyle when I haven't asked for help to change my lifestyle.

I get it, but it's not the advice I'm looking for at this moment in time.
>>
>>42214125
Becoming dependent on benzos.. what could go wrong
>>
>>42214251
>becoming dependent on alcohol

much better
>>
>>42214206
So you admit that you're a 'weekend alcoholic' then? What do you want me to tell you then? You wouldn't have the discipline to follow my advice, you don't even have the discipline to refuse a drink on a Saturday night. Your 'argument' regarding lifestyle is "literally" exactly the same as a fat bitch who eats a cake a day. I have no more time for you. If you can't refuse to drink, there is "literally" no hope for you, and you may as well stop going to the gym.
>>
>>42214131
Alcohol makes you fat. Don't listen to people that say alcohol doesn't contribute to fat just because it biochemically can't be converted directly into fat. You can't get around the fact that your body is complex and is always breaking down molecules and storing molecules all the time and alcohol tends to skew things to the fat storing end.

If you're only binge drinking on Saturday, then the calories probably aren't going to break your cut. It'll slow it down a little bit, but it just depends on how active you are when you're sober for the other parts of the week.

Best thing to do is keep a log for yourself and record your weight loss / strength improvements over time and see if it's as good or worse than before. If you're aiming for 1 lb weight loss per week, and you're not losing anything and you're getting weaker, then you're doing something wrong.
>>
>>42214227
So you can actually provide a definitive and knowledgeable answer to this thread or just critisce people and derail a thread?

Because if it's the later then I can be hypocritical and tell you that you may need to work on some things in your life.
>>
>>42214281
already worked on. dropped the alcohol, became less depressed slowly over time, and things got better.
>>
>>42214277
He's not saying he can't refuse a drink. He wants to have a drink and wants some info on it, that's a big difference.

>>
>>42213972
Your liver breaks down the alcohol into its component sugars that then enter your bloodstream for use as energy. If there is surplus sugar the body will convert it to fat and store it for later. So yes you get all those calories, plus a slower metabolism, plus water retention and bloat.

not him but liquor tastes like complete absolute garbage

I gagged less when I used my piss to whiten my teeth
>>
>>42213834
Best advice is not to drink, period. There is no benefit whatsoever. Go and find social activities that don't involve booze.

If it's unavoidable stick to non-sweetened wine or just nurse a single serving of hard liquor through the night.

Stay away from Club Soda/Tonic Water as well as that stuff actually has sugar in it.
>>
>>42213972
>>42214511
By the way alcohol has no mechanism that can convert it into fat.
>>
>>42214761
First, yes it can. de novo lipogenesis occurs at low efficiency at high glucose loads. Secons, it doesn't matter because calories are fungible.
Insulin will reduce the metabolism of dietary fats when glucose levels are high resulting in the storage of dietary fats.
>>
>>42213834
Just don't binge drink. It might be hard for those of you freaks in college, but you can survive a weekend with just 1-2 maybe 3 drinks. 2 drinks a week wont affect you at all, and you can still drink socially without seeming like a straightedge faggot.

No reason to drink 5-6 drinks a night on the weekend.
>>
>>42214716
>liquor tastes
Scotch with a bit of ice
>>
>>42214738
>single serving of hard liquor through the night.
You know how ridiculous that sounds. 3 or 4 drinks is not gonna break the caloriebank
>>
Until you hit a threshold of 6-8 drinks (dependant on size) nothing in alcohol truly matters except the empty calories.

Of course this is assuming you have breaks and stuff. not just doing 4 drinks a night. Take days off and if your going to drink every night then limit it hard to 1 drink or maybe 2.

Remember that what you drink is important, more alch % = more calories. If you love craft beers that at 8% their gonna be a 300 calorie bomb. Stick to shit light beer if you drink fast and large quanities.

As long as you calorie count you should be fine, even then have friends who get very energetic when the drink, doing things like running, dancing , beer pong, ect. We put FitBit's on them one night and found that they had easily burned off their 5 light beers by the nights end with just dancing and chasing after the pong ball.
