Is there a more meme lift than barbell OHP? Such a useless lift, unhealthy for the shoulders. Peddled by fat manlets who wanna be strong men and "powerlifters." I make sure to convince everyone I know to stop doing them. Are there any other lifts you convince people to stop doing?

not if you do them right; i used to have should issues, started doing proper OHP (i.e. shoulders underneath wrists, not flared, narrow-ish grip) and haven't had any since. plus my shoulders look great

I actually did and both a physical therapist and the doc told me overhead movements are bad for the shoulder joint in general, but neutral grip is best (hence, barbell fixing your grip in an unhealthy position)

meaningless term; what does "electromyographic activity" actually mean to you? does this mean the muscles used in the movement? the intensity with which they're worked? this is how the fitness industry takes advantage of you, by saying dumb things that sound smart that you don't know to ignore. ignore this crap anon and learn from proper strength training coachs, like Mark Rippetoe. it gets laughed at as a meme here pretty hard by idiots who don't know what they're talking about, but for people looking for a form reference and for an entry into strength training, Starting Strength is a great book.

if yourr shoulder is actually giving you problems, stop working it and ice it. take off for a few more days after it recovers. if pain persists, see a doctor. then read Starting Strength to actually learn the proper form for it, and do it the way it says.

in general, whenever you do a movement where the arm moves, you should fight to keep your back and lats tight

OHP is a great test of strength but not good at building strength. Bench and dips both load tris and anterior delts way more (primary movers on OHP). The lower kinetic chain is better trained squatting and DLing.

OHP can expose your weak links and a heavy OHP shows your body is in general strong.

But again, it isn't heavy enough to train upper body sufficiently

It's just meant to be the minimum milestones like "you're decently strong if you can do a minimum of this on all your lifts" it doesn't mean stop there. I'm aiming to be able to do 100kg 1rm minimum, which for me (a very weak and frail manlet) is not bad.

Do that weird stretch where you bend at the waist and place your hands at the edge of a table/counter at waist height. Then have your boyfriend push down in the center of your shoulder blades. I fucking hate this stretch because it fucking kills, but it'll allow more vertical flexibility in the shoulders, and should take a large portion of the load off the delts.

well I'm 174cm/176cm depending on what time I measure myself and have really good leg genetics (I calf raised 80kg the other day for 15 reps) so I'm trying. I'd say 1234 is a good cut off point at least though, it shows you've been lifting for around 1-1.5 years and aren't a complete novice.
