Well, it was caused by my autoimmune disease I didn't know I had. My white cells attacked healthy cells in my intestines. It went for so long that it started with irritation, then inflammation, then cysts.

Its what motivated me to get healthy because when I realized it was never going to fully go away I needed to take care of myself better. They've narrowed it down to an autoimmune disorder that her mother likely has as well, no specific idea of the specific gene causing it, but after a few intense years of hospital treatments and thousands of dollars of experimental drug regimes we've found stuff that keeps it at bay.
She hasn't had a flare up in about two years, touch wood, I'm just scared for when we try for our first kid.

It will take a couple of years, but look through progress threads, look at guys who've dropped a shitload of weight and kept it off for a few years.

It's only very extreme cases where you have a lot of excess skin after 3-5 years, which can be reduced by gaining muscle, eating right and seeing a dermatologist.

I can only think of a small handful of people I've seen on /fit/ who actually needed skin reduction, and they were 400lbs plus.

My brother dropped from the low 300's and after two years there's a dramatic difference in the amount of excess skin.

Not a dermatologist, so I can't answer that, but I don't think it's a real issue until you're in your 50's.
From what I understand, diet and hormones are two major factors.
Speak to a dermatologist, they won't charge a practice fee, just a consult fee.
Check with the receptionist if you don't have insurance/public healthcare.

In my country a consult is a flat $69 for private, with hourly fees after the first 20 minutes.

Not the same anon but I wrestled in college and have been doing BJJ and some kickboxing; Not a lot of throwing it's much different in that regard. What you can expect is to get gassed VERY easy if you're not in decent to good shape. Lots of grappling, using your whole body fluidly- especially your hips and legs. If you're in tune with your body and decently coordinated it should come fairly easy if you have discipline. It comes easy if you're a lanky fucker but short and stubby guys shouldn't be discouraged. Watch some videos on mount escapes to get a decent idea of what to expect. Watch videos on shrimping and other drills to help you get started too.

Oh and if you're not in good shape right now, expect a FUCK TON of pain in your hips/thighs, knees and back. The first day after I went it felt like someone had ripped out my kidneys.
