How often can you have a cheat day and how do you know of you deserve one

It's only bad.

There's 365 days in a year, let's say you have 36 cheat days where you go over your calorie maintenance by 3000 calories. (2000 maintenance and you eat 5000).

That's 108,000 calories of surplus over only 36 days, which is one cheat day every 10 days. 108,000 calories from 36 days of surplus is 30.85 lbs.

Now if you had that cheat once every 7 days where you go 3000+ calories above maintenance you're looking at 52 pounds of extra fat.

This can be worked off during the week with added cardio, but then you're just sort of maintaining your weight and never getting lean.

If you've been trying to get lean and failing despite being on a perma-cut for ages this is most likely the reason why you're just spinning your wheels despite doing all that lifting and cardio and eating really good for most of the time.

This is why i've always understood it as a cheat meal, not a day. It's much harder to go overboard on a single meal then it is in a full day. Also keeping away from things that leave you leftovers, say ordering a pizza. Where you feel like you have to finish it over the next day or two. Going and getting a meal from Mcdonalds might be 1200 calories (guessing), but thats only 500 over the dinner you were going to have.
