Is dumbell bench press superior to barbell bench press?

Only for building size, because it recruits more muscle fibers to stabilize the individual weights.
>>
Do both.

I only worked out at home for a year, could bench 75lb dumbells for 6 reps, then I went to the gym for the first time and my chest felt fucked up like never before off 1pl8 barbell bench, even though that was less weight.

Not OP but I thought they were both the same. I just thought dumbbells were better if you didn't have a spotter and that was pretty much the only difference.

Yes. the only problem is it gets pretty hard to load and get into position when you're as strong as someone benching over 2plate.

They work the same muscles, but in different ways. With barbell, if one hand or arm is off a bit, the other can usually compensate. With dumbbell, they both are independent of each other, so they can only use themselves to move the weight.

Yeah, but if you're counting reps then both arms would grow at the same rate, right? So if you're using barbell and one arm's compensating then wouldn't you end up like pic related?

This

I was amazed at how little weight I could lift when using the barbell compared to how much I could lift when using dumbells.
I used to think it was the same exercise except dumbbells were better since it isolated the muscles leading to better chest development
