If you already have bad eating habits when you start gaining you are going to get fat

It depends. If you first bulk, you will have muscle but it will be covered by fat. If you first cut, you will have low fat but no miscle to show off.

So, if you are new to lifting i recommend you start bulking if you are skelly, and start cutting to ~15% or lower bf if you are chubby/overweight/fat.
