Something called jealousy. People feel good only when there is noone above them and a lot below them, but since they don't make the effort to excel, they try to literally level the statistic by dragging the upper percentile closer to the center.

Nah.
I met up with some former high school stoner friends in my home town just recently. they made passive aggressive comments about my gains and being a comp sci major in university.
They said "i wasnt fun to be around anymore" despite me being kind to them and making jokes that would make them laugh when we were in high school (keep in mind the stoner friends havent changed at all, theyre still out of shape, super lazy and dont even have jobs or attend college unless it was their landscaper parents that gave them one).
i realized they only wanted me around, because I smoked weed with them and gave them a place to smoke weed and i gave them money when they begged for it. i dont need those people in my life anymore
