Judo and BJJ are the only smart martial arts

Go home tubby.

Kickboxing is the goat martial art.
>>
>>42154341

I am pretty tubby so I guess you make a fair point. you're still a fag though
>>
>>42154405
This. Grappling is pointless unless you wanna fight mma. Boxing/muay thai is where it's at
>>
>>42153966
BJJ fags are the most obnoxious "my dad can beat up your dad" kind of faggots.
not even muay thai fags are as bad.
>>
>>42154250
>guns
>martial art
when you under any circumstance do not have a gun, you are a helpless sissy boy.
learn to fight with the weapons nature gave you, instead of being a pussy fatass.
>>
Kickboxing and Judo should cover just about anything you'd reasonably come up against. It's good to know basic shit because there's a lot of faggots who join a dojo for a little while, leave, and think they're tough shit for learning the beginner techniques when that's all they know. BJJ continues where regular Jujitsu leaves off with a lot of its techniques, so I can say it's more of a complete form and less of "throwing or tripping someone and running away". Karate is pretty meh. Haven't really done anything else.

Nope.
They were those who requiered the less conditionning. Not those days though.
>>42154250
This is why so many idiots shoot themselves, right?.
>>
>>42153966
They're probably about the best for 1-on-1 fights with strict rules. You're not going to get involved in many of those outside of tournaments.

So really any martial art is fine, you're just fooling around. If you want to defend yourself, what you get is a gun and learn to use it.
>>
>>42154542
Just don't get into any circumstance in which you do not have a gun. It's not so hard.

None of the martial arts will keep you safe if your opponent is armed and you're not.
>>
>>42153966
Judo and boxing, yeah, best way to stay on your feet
>>
>>42155080
>If you want to defend yourself, what you get is a gun and learn to use it.

/thread. No other info required.
>>
>>42155098
boxing, judo, and bjj.

if you're standing, you can box. Going to the ground? Judo. On the ground? BJJ.

It's a decent trifecta, only reason judo gets a bad rep is that it's not as effective on the padded mats, but if you do the same shit on concrete, game over.

This shit is retarded. There are loads of situations in which you either can't carry a gun or pulling a gun on someone is totally inappropriate and will get you jail time.

I'd recommend learning boxing or muay thai. BJJ seems pretty cool too, but I feel like in a real life situation you'll probably get your head stomped.
>>
>>42155169
Yeah but who do you think is winning a fight when it's Spencer vs Eduardo? Or Hunter from NYC vs Travis from Missouri?

The people recommending multiple martial arts are LARPers 100% of the time. If you've done more than one art to be any good at a single one of them, then you wouldn't be on /fit/ telling people how to take down bigguys4u on the street. If you were actually good at what you're talking about, you'd be talking about what works on bigguys4u that practice that art.

Nobody is trying to master multiple arts at the same time. If you wan self defense, then buy a fucking weapon.
>>
>>42155131
Why the hell would you want to "got to the ground" if you can just slam, trip or sweep a guy into/onto the concrete?
>>
>>42154177
There's no gi BJJ. Competitors wear compression shirts and spats or shorts.

BJJ is only one side of self defense tho, you need to couple it with a striking art to be complete.
>>
>martial artists
>smart

90% of the time they are not university educated, rather manual labor mongrels.
There are more exceptions in BJJ / judo as you said, but in MMA i'd argue that 99% of practicioners are low-browed street urchins

Classic ooga booga from the low IQ browns and white trash.

Also, it would be me winning.
>>
>>42156139
Don't get me wrong, for all intents and purposes I AM Hunter from NYC. But I have enough athleticism and training to not get my shit pushed in immediately whenever Hernando or Raekwon jumps, which again, won't happen with any kind of frequency in my life.

Basically, you should have wrestled when you were a kid, and you'd be a better person for it if you had.

This. Kickboxing and Wrestling is all you need
>>
Muay Thai with full emphasis on trips, wrestling, boxing, and judo are the best for street fighting.
Which you shouldn't fucking do, but if you had to, those 4 are the best in really any combo.

BJJ is the best for just wanting to do a martial art but not wanting to destroy your body/brain. You can actually do BJJ well into old age. It works in a street fight too, but it's more risky. Judo is fairly good in this aspect too actually. They both keep you in shape with minimal damage.
>>
>>42156395
My boy I used to throw around grown ass judoka men when I was 16 years who came to our wrestling practice lmao
>>
I'm a poor fucktard student and I'm doing judo for $20 dollars a semester, the nearest boxing gym to me charges an exorbitant amount of $140 per month. There's also an MMA gym nearby that charges $179 monthly but I want to learn pure boxing. What the hell should I do guys? Should I shelve out the money or just stick with Judo for the next three years? There's also a BJJ club at my Uni but no boxing. Feels bad man.

Is Muay Thai a good martial arts to learn?
>>
Before /asp/ was turned into a pile of shit by chinamoot this used to be the consensus:

Pick one from each category

1:
Judo
BJJ
Wrestling

2:
Boxing
Muay Thai
Kickboxing

3 (not really nescessary but fun):
HEMA
FMA
>>
>>42157524
Stick to judo, it's goat.
Learn striking once you have the money.
>>
>>42157436
>Judo
>minimum damage
Nigger what. Getting constantly arm dragged and hip tossed takes a toll on your body. I don't know anyone who's been in the sport for more than a few years that doesn't have shoulder or knee problems.
Totally true about BJJ though, rolling is chill and you can do that forever. Provided your training partner isn't a dick
>>
>>42158831
That's a meme. There was a study posted recently on the bjj (or maybe judo) sub. Bjj has a injury rate just as high as judo, but the injuries tend to be not as serious because they're mostly upper body, while judo is mostly lower body.

Bjj being very safe is a meme. Serious injury or not, lots of people wear ear protection for a reason for example. Knee protection, elbow protection, "dude pls don't attack my left pls" is common.
There was an ama recently with some 18yo brazilian who already trained for 15 years and someone asked if the sport is softer on the body when you start as a kid, because your body is used to it more. And he said lmao no way, he's having his second surgery already.

Point being bjj is a martial art, if you get into it, you can expect injuries at some point. If you're getting into it because it's supposedly safe and you want to get into shape, then wrestling, judo, bjj, kickboxing, they're all terrible imo. Boxing is by far the safest with the most conditioning and best for casual people who just want to stay in shape well into old age and learn some self defense. Most boxing gyms I know even offer white collar boxing, or old people boxing.
>>
> boxing
not using the strongest limbs you have (your legs) because reasons
>>
>>42154562
No, actually combining wing chun with aikido is the best. People don't know this, because both are too dangerous to use in MMA. To use these MA's in sport you need formal written consent from both hombu dojo in tokyo and the daoist temple in hong kong where they need to consult the spirit of IP man through a ritual first.

Nobody has actually managed to get these, so hence people scoff at this truly deadly combo.

Muay thai is hard on the knees, body and brain. You basically break your shins to get them harder.

Any striking sport is hard on the brain. If you don't plan on fighting either on the street or in the ring, why bother?
>>
>>42161954
you're at uni of course you can, usually martial arts coaches are from outside, talk to locals who know their shit
>>
>>42153966
>boxing
>don't get punched in the face
>punch the other guy in the face

For some reason people think boxing isn't a sophisticated martial art. Despite it being extremely straight forward and in all reality so simple that it's what makes it brilliant. No voodoo or cult like mentality.

BJJ is also a badass martial art. Just break the guys arm and leave him unconscious.
