Had an interview at an engineering firm. Didn't know a couple of questions they asked and one the guys remarked "spending too much time at the gym huh?!" and they all laughed. Called back yesterday after waiting two weeks and they said they decided to go another way. WTF I though lifting was supposed to help my life.
>>
probably should've spent more time studying then you faggot
>>
>>42153770
Is your passion engineering
Or lifting and you were destined to be a celebrity personal trainer
>>
Lol you let yourself get punked by a little faglet
>>
>>42153780
They were intricacies involving the operations at the company. Nothing I could know offhand. You probably don't even have a degree you complete waste
>>
>>42153770
Were the questions basic shit you should have known?

Be honest with yourself.
>>
>>42153826
no they were operational questions.
>>

>>42153823

I think not knowing the questions hurt you more than lifting.
Doubt they would have hired you even if you were a skinnyfat dork.

When you look like you lift you have to work twice as hard for normies to think that you're smart too.
>>

I'm just a high test guy because I dont rub my dick to porn. I lift clean and eat cleaner. BACK OFF
>>
>>42153770
>one the guys remarked "spending too much time at the gym huh?!" and they all laughed.

That's pretty unprofessional, and kind of a red flag for how the company operates. Interviews go both ways. Approach an interview as if you're seeing if THEY are a good fit for you as well. You dodged a bullet.

Reading is slowly becoming my main hobby, however it certainly doesn't make you smarter. It improves your vocabulary, but not in a functional way particularly.
>>
>>42153770
When you're asked questions you don't know the answer to, say "I'm not quite sure what the answer is, but maybe [your rational here]."

They're trying to figure out how you solve problems that aren't textbook or are obscure.

Now don't ever blame your physique ever again.

lifting helps your life.
We never said anything about career...
although to be honest you basically got shit tested.
The only way to answer was to switch the topic to your interest ("show you're passionate" route : WAHWAHWAH i used to be really fat but i persevered etcetc) or make a funny comment where the shame is somewhat sent back (Like make a "retard face" to excuse your ignorance, showing that you got it)
>>
>>42153770
Based on other posts that I'm not autistic to collect for this response, I'd say the company gets more applicants they need and they've started asking whacky questions as some way to filter through applicants. There will be some few applicants who have researched the company in detail and have been evil mastermind plotting their career at this specific company since they were 15 years old. Those people are going to make it through the interview. Someone like that got the job. That would be my guess.

Without you naming the company it's hard to tell but maybe you have an idea if they are a desired employer. If they're not then that guy was just unprofessional.
>>

>>42154105
>They want your intelligence, not your looks or charm.
In science charm can be pretty important, research is the biggest thing when applying to grad schools but after that they want someone who can get along with everyone and be able to express their views.
>>
>>42153823
A lot of interviews for technical firms aren't expecting you to get the answers exactly right, they want to see your line of thinking, how you operate under pressure, and whether or not you'll be a good fit for the company.

Better luck next time.
>>
>>42156218
You mean just being able to get through an interview without pissing anyone off? Im pretty sure most people have "charm" if thats what you are talking about.
>>
>>42154358
OP dun set off the lunk alarm
>>
>>42157345
No getting into a good PHD program in research science if not a minority or woman depends a lot on if you are going to be a good colleague.
I've known many men to get into some of the best programs of their field due to their charisma.
Protip: You don't rely on the interview. You contact the advisor through email and somehow meet them irl before.
>>
>>42153875
Roid Rage!!!!
>>
>>42157377
So basically what I just said? Being good at kissing ass? Im pretty sure most people got that down.
>>
>>42157405
I can see you're not smart enough to be anything in life.
Being able to express ideas and being a "people person" is far more than just kissing ass.
Many scientists are gruff but are still the type of people you naturally want to please.
>>
>>42153770
They could smell the fear and pounced on it, if you look fit you gotta have your shit straight in this field or else you gotta hide your power level.

They ask those "impossible" questions because they want you to say something along the lines of, "Don't know, point me to the manuals and I can figure it out." If you flop around just because you don't know something then they think that they're going to have to babysit you until you get your shit straight.
>>
>>42157440
Thats real cute. Especially how you think you can analyze my life. But you are giving these college students too much credit. Maybe it was just the chemistry major students but they all fake as fuck. I would catch them talking shit a lot behind each others backs and act genuine or have "charisma" in front of other people. If you don't think they aren't kissing ass and you also think just being a "people person" is tough, then I just don't know what to say to you. I felt like i was weird for being the only one not being as fake as they were.
>>
>>42157495
I'm not talking about undergrads, most of them don't make it.
I'm talking about people who actually have both the knowledge and charisma to make it.
And yes, most undergrads are still kids and it really isn't their fault, they just try to be nice and suck up to profs and advisors and have no idea how they can actually connect with people.
Back in undergrad when kids would be sucking up to our main older prof on conference trips I would just work hard and by the end of the day chill with him in his room talking shit and playing cards.

I did several different science majors as an undergrad so I'm lucky enough to have a good idea on each major.
Physics are exactly what you would expect (wasn't a major but had to take a lot of classes), chemistry had a few really chill people (some /fit/ too) but for the most part spergy kids that wanted to impress their profs.
Biology is filled with people who don't actually have passion for the content, they memorize flashcards and want to look at animals/plants without actually working. Still chill people.
Geology is filled with friendly people but most are deficient in math.
Guys were insecure when others knew math in it.
>>
>>42153770
>>>/r/swoleacceptance
>>
>>42157576
I was trying to say if fake people can get into grad school or a masters program, then expressing ideas and having "charisma" isn't that tough.

At this point, I have no idea what you are getting on about. But I stated my opinion and you yours.
>>
>>42153770
Fuck every engineering interview I've been to I've wanted to punch them in the face for saying dumb shit like that.

>Like make a "retard face" to excuse your ignorance, showing that you got it

>>
>>42153823
Believe it or not, most firms (and all big firms) expect you to do your research and be very familiar with them and their work.

I'm only telling this so you don't fuck up your next interview, as it seems you learned absolutely nothing from this one so far.
>>
>>42157598
>Then expressing ideas and having "charisma" isn't that tough.
Not that anon, but it seems to be a pretty big problem for you. In all honesty you should have known the answers to the questions. Or given them a suitable answer.maybe you do need to put the weights down and pick up the books.

It could be your physique that biased their opinion, could be the fact you didn't know the answers. Could be both.

I work at a pharmacy (technician) behind the counter so not a pharmacist but even with my low tier job I notice people walking up to the counter with a questionable look on their face. It usually fades after I give them the info + advice and their look changes to a smile.

I'm not even that big but I look like a buff chad Jokes on them because I'm an introverted dude who (had) an insecurity complex.
>>
>>42161110
This guy gets it. It's your physical appearance that was the problem.
These tech companies were started and are run by people who were bullied by muscular jocks in school. They look at you and automatically are reminded of a time when they were miserable and unhappiness was an everyday thing for them.
It doesn't matter that you have a degree to them, they perceive you as a bully and they don't want you there, whether you are or not. Perception is eveything in a job interview. You looked a certain way to them so you were given a bullshit question and failed because it caught you off guard. Same thing used to happen to me alot when I was "jacked". It made m e angry then depressed. I cut down weight and now I look fit, not like I roid. Not that it matters anymore, I own my business now anyways.

I even got that perception in my dating life. It sucks and it shouldn't matter but unfortunately it does.
>>
>>42161110
>>42161285
Or he couldn't answer their questions, wasn't prepared for the interview, and didn't get the job.

If OP had a flawless interview, you guys crying about discrimination might have a valid point. However, OP himself has presented a very clear reason why he should not be hired that has absolutely nothing to do with his physique.

Construction Management is the way to go, only because it has elements of engineering, architecture, and business in it. Plus the students are chill as fuck, social, willing to team up on any assignnent, but most importantly, we are socially adept normies. Shame our major has very few attractive females, but it's male dominated, so that's to be expected.

People read too much into interviews because it hurts their ego so much.

Sometimes they find a better guy. Sometimes they don't. Every interviewer has different opinions. Sometimes you don't get it right and need to practice more, or improve your resume.

Sometimes the company is shit and you wouldn't want to work there anyway. It's all a fucking lottery.

>>42153770
heres your two options for next time op.

1. You are lucky I am not an employee at this company as that is a violation of HR rules involving harassment of physical appearances of employees. then turn to main interviewer and say if this is the toxic corporate culture you have here I am not interested in working at this company. we are done goodbye. They will either apologize give you the job or not call you back. if they are willing to harass you like that during an interview you dont want to work there anyway and they werent going to hire you anyway. if they do hire you, get out to a better job in a year.

2. I use to struggle with eating disorders and body image and i dont appreciate your colleague mocking my disadvantages I have overcome. if you would like to discuss a way to have a healthy lifestyle i would be happy to talk with you but I will not be mocked for my past struggles.

1 is more aggressive and essentially accepting the job is not gonna happen. 2 can be done well if spoken calmly and turns the blame back on them. they now look like douches mocking someone with eating disorders which makes them all uncomfortable.
>>
>>42153770
More likely the way you sperged out about not being able to take a joke is holding you back.

>Who gives a fuck what you look like in STEM
I think you have a very wrong idea about what you do at engineering firms.
Sure 50% of the times your making 3D CAD models, making technical drawings, testing stresses via simualtions, etc. but other 50%
>Working with your team and managing responsibility
>Gathering information from workers at machines and ordering them around
>holding meeting and presentations about projects
>taking care of foreign guests and potential customers
>heated arguments with your superiors and colleagues
>paycheck negotiations

Literally every engineer at every company ive worked with has much more work than just brain stuff.
If you want to have a better position, better paycheck and more influence you have to look good, fashionable, confident, fit and some level of intimidation,.

basically, people think they can make it far by dumping stat points in INT

What they neglect is the general benefit of putting points into CHA

Super inconsiderate, expect you to know everything, want tons of experience a college kid wouldn't have, hire women with way worse gpa and credentials than me for god knows why.

A guy once asked me my approach for solving a difficult engineering problem so told him how i went about solving a problem of trajectories for ejection sleds during a project and after i told him he goes: "so what was your approach?". Like i was supposed to remember every calculation and line of code. Never wanted to push someones shit in so bad.

Engineering was a mistake. Should have got a normal job and focused on music.

Ooh there is certainly a place for people that dump everything in INT
>you milk the ever living shit out of them
Basically they will work 2-3x times harder than everybody else for the SAME paycheck. Then they will brag to friends and family
>I better than 90% of retards i work with, what they do in a week i can can do in two days
You simply play to their ego, keep dumping more and more "important" work.

Sooner or later they will get a bit jaded from being used in such way, but quitting your job takes guts and finding a new job takes charisma and adventurous spirit, (they lack both). Keeping your same boring job is preferable to the cruelty of the real world, but his ego wont let him slack at work
>slacking could put him on the same productivity level as"idiots" he works with, oh no
You just raise their paycheck 2% every year or smt. Or give him a token high responsibility work title ( its basically just more work and responsibility but zero power)

Engineers are faggots and sociopaths. All you need to know. These are people obsessed with money. They have no soul. Everything out of their mouths spews how much can i get x for x. Bankers and Wallstreet 20ish years ago

People bitch and moan about wallstreet, but the real evil sons of bitches are the engineers now.

Should have picked a hard science and worked with people who actually love the field they are in, and work with a passion than greedy faggots who are in it for the money

t. research Neuro fag. Dealing with the engineers is the worst part of my job

Same guy. I was going to go into medical engineering. But my faggot of an uncle who antagonized everyone at every chance he could get made me change my mind. Dude retired at 40, bought some awful shit and made bad decisions, like a boat to sail in SA. Now he's got 2 mil left and in hard times. Boo fucking hoo. He's got "connections" and shit, but fuck all he wont share them with his family!

basically roll with the punch and pretend to be retarded.
Not the best defense, but not offensive enough to lose the job, basically a polite middle finger 'i dont care about your opinion and will even consider demonstrating how right you think you are'

>not applying to firms with qts doing the recruiting
You're doing it wrong

bro how does anyone know that you lift if you keep it under a suit for example? Tom Cruise always looked pretty damn fit and under a suit you couldnt tell at all. He just looks good in it, nobody would know whether he has a slight belly or a rocking sixpack
>>

Dude don't let yourself get down. You shouldn't have let that little fag clown on you like that, but I have a feeling you were probably saying things at the interview that got them to not take you seriously or they wouldn't have all laughed at you.

Seriously, I'm an engineer and they do not expect you to know all the answers their questions. There was another reason.

I don't know how you feel about this, but I found mock interviews with an employment network specialist to be really helpful.
