What's the deal with face pulls? I've had some shoulder pain and was told these would help. Is that true?
Tried it, now my face hurts.

Depends on the type of shoulder pain. In general terms, the face pull and external rotations with rubber tubing ante good for the majority of should pain issues that are a result of excessive anterior rotation and impingement.
If your shoulder pain is caused by something else, these drills may be counterproductive.
