hey /fit/
when I feel too sad (most of the time) I can't get myself to exercise
what can I do to motivate myself? What are your ways?
>>
Stop being depressed
>>
do 10x5 deadlifts with 95% of your current 5RM
you'll feel good (or die) after that

t. did exactly that way too many times
>>
Use working out as an escape valve. You'll learn how to enjoy it. I personally run to clear my head. It's fucking amazing
>>
>>42143552
i'm trying
>>42143560
i don't lift tho
only jogging, crunches and weak shit like that
>>42143567
i enjoy workout, it's just basically I can't even move when I start thinking about life etc
>>

I see lifting as "the bare minimum"

Whenever I am depressed, I skip on reading books, socialising, meditation, getting shit done besides work, cardio etc etc...

The only thing that stays persistent is lifting. To be honest, I always feel better after working out. Especially when the feels hit hard.
>>
>>42143627
i have to feel at least okay to even think about workout
which, again i don't get considering i enjoy it

You don't need motivation. You need discipline. You have a goal - you have to work every single day to reach it. It's gonna suck balls and you're going to hate your life. But I promise you it will be worth it.

It was pouring outside today but I still biked to the gym and completed my workout. Don't accept your own excuses anymore.
>>
>>42143677
that's right
that's the factor i've been missing
I should find a way to punish myself for not completing my daily workout
thanks anon
>>
>>42143584
then start lifting you dumb cunt
>>
>>42143705
i don't need muscles
i just want to be less of a fat fuck
>>
>>42143652
Funnily enough, I always fall into a really poor state of mind when leaving my parents for a workweek on Sundays.
I feel really bad. Somehow all of my negative emotions seem to stir up and I have tears in my eyes when driving away.
These feelings stay with me for the entire 45 min. drive to my flat and persist until I unpacked all my bags...
But then I hit the gym. After that hour I feel normal again. No matter how shitty my thoughts were before.

I'm quite sure it's the same for you. You won't feel worse after working out for sure. Especially cardio gives a huge mental boost.
>>
>>42143737
yeah, it's true, I do feel better after a good workout
all I need is something to make me begin
that's why i asked, I don't think I would've cared enough if working out was a bad feeling
>>
>>42143537
Well you asked /fit/ about working out through a mental illness, I suppose this is what you get. Get therapy, now. Depression can be overcome, but you need help if you're clinically depressed. This shit kills a lot of people, don't take it lightly. Take care of your mind and its health, it's what gives you the experience of living

Really anon, get help. This can be overcome - see a therapist (or two, or three - until you get someone you feel comfortable with).
>>
>>42143769
thanks and yeah, I'm planning on doing that asap
it's just that I've been fine for a while because I was in a relationship and I didn't need anything else from life but then we broke up, then i got into some mess with my friends and it came back
>>
>>42143750
The knowledge of feeling better after having started is quite a good reason to begin, don't you think?
>>
>>42143839
there's like an invisible force stopping me
>>
>>42143820
>>42143820
Yeah I feel you. I suppose one has to strive to have some margains when it comes to bottoming out, life hits hard sometimes even when you're healthy.

I believe in you my man, you can get through this. You deserve to feel alright, you're working against the wind trying to get to the gym with a depression. That said, exercise is a great tool to establish routine and getting some feel good-chemicals going, but getting to talk to someone is what's going to enable you to learn to spread your wings again, without being afraid to fall.

I believe in you man, you can do this
>>
>>42143933
thanks man
I'll keep trying my best
>>
>>42143720
lift
cunt
>>
>>42144054
fuck of he's mentally ill, you try doing anything with a chemical imbalance in your brain
>>
>>42144064
ikr
i'm a fag as well
>>
how does caffeine/preworkout affect you?

does it fill you with energy to the point where your body feels like it needs to move??

Maybe it can help. Just an idea.
>>
>>42144125
only enough caffeine to cause a crash
which is not a good thing, especially considering I'm willing to exercise everyday
>>
>>42144064
we all are
cunt
>>
>>42143537
I don't have problems with skipping training because I use all of my self loathing as fuel.
If you're as pathetic as you say you are I don't understand how you're unwilling to do whatever it takes to not be the worthless sack of shit that you are currently.
It's not the most healthy outlook, but it keeps me on an upward trajectory.
>>
a little bit is always better than nothing

with regards to exercise, that is
>>
>>42143537
ive been depressed before. It fucking sucks. All you do is just lay around not giving a shit about anything. Not eating, not working, not talking, nothing.
I got out of it without medication. But I really don't know how i made it out.
>>
>>42143537
>>42143584
This has nothing to do with fitness and here your are in a fitness board trying to fix it.

What are you actually doing to deal with your depression? Therapy? Medication? Meditation?

Working out isn't your problem, depression is.
>>
>>42144683
my problem is depression, however the problem i'm trying to fix here is lack of motivation for workout
pretty sure this /fit/s /fit/
>>
>>42144744
I'm not saying it doesn't belong on the board, I'm saying you are focusing on the wrong thing.

Your lack of motivation isn't because you don't want to work
out, you obviously do or you wouldn't be asking for help. Your problem is the lack of motivation is caused by depression, that's a much bigger issue.

Even if you get motivation to workout, which by the way won't come from someone's answer here because our goals are different from yours, that won't actually solve what caused the lack of motivation.

You're asking for a bandaid for your bullet wound.

You also didn't answer my original question.
>>
>>42144978
this guy is right. Focus on getting better, get therapy and possibly antidepressants
>>
>>42144978
Yeah, I know. As I said however, it wasn't a problem for a while because I found a way to distract myself that lasted long enough for me not to require any help, but now it's over

anyway, I meditate once in a while, also I'm going to visit a therapist as soon as I can. In the past a friend who was studying psychology helped a lot, I should speak with him as well.
>>
>>42144064

I was depressed and suicidal when I started lifting.

I was eating 500 calories a day and sleeping 3 hours a night and was living day by day and lucky to be alive right now

I lifted just the bar during squats, and fainted more than once. One time I woke up in vomit, with people surrounding me, and found out an ambulance was on its way.

My advice to OP is to spend your limitied mental energy on building the habit. Go to the gym if only just to shower and use the toilet, while you get comfortable. If you are too sick to lift one day then still go to the gym just to keep the habit. Maybe only do one compound lift if you are on verge of tears.
>>
>>42145077
though again, i'm not interested in lifting nor using gym equipement. I can't stand feeling judged and that's how I feel when exercising in public

I'm a human bean, god dammit
anyway, i'd rather not go too far considering I used to have anger issues

Hey mate. Best thing to do in my experience is find someone else who goes and do a buddy system where you both go together and keep each other motivated.

I struggle to motivate myself but I've found that if someone else keeps you accountable for going to the gym it will encourage you more to go.

turn your depression into rage
>>
You need to somehow force yourself to keep going. A body at rest tends to stay at rest and a body in motion tends to stay in motion
.Also people dont really care in the gym, most of em are just focusing on doing their own thing.
>>
>>42143537

Try a 10-15 minute yoga video on youtube just to get your body moving, once you get that blood flowing, it's easier to get to the gym.
>>
hey it's op again the morning after (can't set name because on shitty mobile app)
all you anons made me feel better and i managed to start my routine over somehow
i have risen like a phoenix
>probably the best workout i ever had
thanks to everyone
/thread

>>42149518
also to all anons i didn't reply to: advice taken
>>
I'm going to tell you a well known secret, everything is mind over matter. If you don't mind it doesn't matter. Quit feeling sorry for yourself. Think about and meditate on the positive things about your life, you, and always remember there are many who would live your shitty little problems. You are sad because life sucks generally for everyone. We don't just have good lives as adults, we have to make them good, and sometimes they're still shit-but we believe it's all good, and so it is. You are also likely depressed because of unfulfilled potential. Skipping your workout will only feed your depression. Get sunlight, water, eat your veggies, clean your room, and I guarantee you'll feel better.
>>
You're supposed to lift to keep depression away, not skip workouts because you're depressed
