Identical repetition is how you get repetitive stress injuries. Vary your form. One set like this, one set like that. Find as many variations as you can and alternate. If a particular way of doing the exercise hurts the most do that way rarely or discard it entirely.
Fingers are surprisingly resilient. If you've tried bouldering/climbing and you know how those people train without complete ruining their fingers, well, that gives you an idea of what you can put your hands through without damaging them long-term.
