how do I find out my max deadlift without going to snapcity?
I've deadlifted like once in my life. Do I just throw some plates on and try to feel it out?

You can just start with the bar and work your way from there. Also you'll only get your ticket to snapcity if you fuck up your form, on deadlifts you just can't afford to do it wrong. Just ask a gym staff member to teach you the right form if you need to (no-one cares if you need help getting a deadlift 'right', they only care if they see you doing it 'wrong').
