Whitening strips work pretty well but you won't get that obnoxiously white smile until after like 20 days of daily treatments. You will after like one professional teach bleaching. Stop drinking black drinks (coffee, soda, tea). Rinse with listerine total care (the purple one) twice a day for 10 seconds, then rinse it out with water (don't live shit in your mouth). That worked for me. Went from pic to a more tolerable color. Nothing will make them perfectly white as enamel is a yellowish color.

I used to think I needed whitening but I went for the (much cheaper) scale and polish with a dental hygeineist first and the improvement was incredible.

I had great success with the carbamide peroxide gel off eBay. Just make sure you don't leave it on too long or let the gel touch your gums or it will burn you. Blows the fuck out of anything else you can get for so little money. Teeth will be sensitive for a while, but it is worth it. You can also try a lower percentage concentration like 20% or 16% if you're really worried about it. Make sure you find a decent supplier who won't sell you expired stuff

I'll tell you one thing: stay away from those whitening tooth pastes. They only fuck up your gums and lips. It's a fucking miracle these things are even legal. I speak from experience. Go to your dentist and get a tray made for your teeth. once your custom trays get made, they will give you whiting gel and teach you how to use it. It's not painful if you do it right.

Just go to your dentist and usually they will have "whiting kits" that they do

You'll learn everything you need from them.

I highly recommend it. I did it a while back and my teeth still aren't anywhere near as yellow as they were before, and mine were VERY yellow.
