The gym I go to only allows seated OHP. You can't even OHP in the power rack or deadlift areas. If you're not sitting someone comes up and stops you and tells you to find a seat or they escort you out.
Sucks dick, but that's college.
If I'm 30lbs dumbbells OHP 3x8 what is my OHP?

Until you're grinding your knees into the fucking ground doing the highest squat volume you can possibly recover from with 3+ session per week frequency with good form while being brutally honest with yourself about form, sleep, food, recovery and deload weeks just to put 10lbs on your squat, you're not even remotely close to your natty limit.
Pro tip: It's very very very hard to overtrain with too much volume, but easy as fuck to burn yourself out if you try to hit arbitrary numbers and arbitrary weight increases every week without increasing the amount of work you do just because /fit/ told you that you're not gonna make it unless you can squat 3 plates while only doing 6 sets a week.

I figured I could push it a little bit more, is it stuck at this until I start to bulk? It's still so weak.
>>42099636
It may be very hard to overtrain, but too much volume can hinder your progress. Perhaps the most common problem for people who run TM, including me, is too much volume, which doesn't allow you to fully recover for the intensity day.
>>42099638

>>42099668
biceps are extremely easy to build and you can do it outside of the gym
bench hits your tris really good which are bigger than your bis and pull-ups engage them too
realize that "curlbro" is a meme precisely because flanting dumbbells around in front of the mirror is not necessary as part of a whole body workout
>>42097126
Okay i'm a total beginner and my ohp is 88lb, but i can't even bench 135lb.

>>42099743

>>42099753
I do both on the same day, but I always bench first, then OHP later.
I do accessories for the chest... incline bench, dumbbell flys, push ups, and nothing for shoulders but I don't know why my ohp is apparently stronger than my bench.
>>42099743
>i can't even bench 135lb.
6 sets
2 sets with 105 lbs and 4 sets with 115lbs
you will see that it will go up

>>42099656
>1 hard set, 5 easy stets (5x5 at like 70% 1rm cmon buddy easy is an overstatement) and 2 piss easy sets on light day per week
That's significantly less volume than even SS, and SS is about half the squat volume and a quarter of the bench volume you'd be doing on a real strength routine written for intermediate powerlifters. Let's not even talk about deadlift volume. There are sheiko days where I've done 5 sets of deadlifts and 5 sets of deadlift off blocks in the same session, You're just not working hard enough.
>tfw everything else is going well, just hit 300lb diddly after 3.5 months having never done them before that

>>42097626
>>42099840
More OHP. You'd have to change your routine entirely desu. You're already not doing the program and if you're doing a bunch of dumbbell accessory work I doubt your fitness goals align with SS anyway.
I struggled the bar at first and now i do 140 lbs. It just takes time.
>>42099545
I don't know
It's retarded, but half the gym is machines and the other (smaller) half is free weights, 6 benches, 3 places to deadlift and 5 places to squat. For a campus of like, 50000 people.
Seated OHP isn't terrible but I don't delude myself into believing I'm getting everything out of it. At least it has shame bars so if my shoulder decides to kick up mid-set I don't drop it through the floor.

if there's a community college nearby with a gym you might be able to use theirs. We have a local one that doesnt card you at the entrance so just anyone could walk in and start lifting
Reminder that low rep exercises do nothing, 3 sets of 10 or you're wasting your time
>>42097177
Yea this, there is a lot I've come to learn about my body after stalling on SL5x5 at not much weight, I just don't progress quickly, well I'm not naturally strong, probably on the lower end of the spectrum since I stalled pretty early even with deloading.
I enjoy progressing by doing steps, for example choosing a weight I can do 8 reps, try for 12 the following week but 10 reps is still progress and once I can do 12 reps I move to the next weight
Starting at 6/7 reps works really well too

>>42100561
you'd make gains faster if you dropped the weight to something you can do 5-6 reps of, then do 3-4 sets of that until you can do 8 or 9 reps. THEN up the weight to whatever you can do 5-6 reps of and repeat

You guys need more volume AND more frequency. Pyramid that shit like 8 sets, and thats just barbell. Then head over to the freeweights and pyramid up/down another 6-8 fucking sets of seated hammer grip. Then grab some light shit and bang out 4-5 sets of lateral raises. Lastly crank out a few sets of shrugs and thats your shoulder day. You fucking go home and eat/lay down after this. Every other day at the gym do at least 1 set of pressing with medium-heavy weight, shoulders respond well to high frequency.

>>42097126
>Not hanging inverted OHP'ing 225
>Its like you wanna be a beta
225lbs ohp for reps
>>42097161
I just failed at 75 lbs ohp after 9 months lifting.
Extremely aggravating? Yes.
>>42098081
>not starting deadlifts at 135lbs
How fucked am i if i bench 135 and cant deadlift 135
>>42112420
You mean lat pulldowns ?
Btw you draw like a literal autist
>>42113326
Youre every other dude at the gym ever
Only ever do OHP at parents' home gym, but using university most of the time and it's a pain in the ass to get the bar free - does anybody here use the Smith to do OHP?
>just hit 135 ohp and 225 bench in the same week
>been lifting 13 months
>7 of those months were on a calorie deficit losing 70lbs and gaining almost no strength
How am I doing.
>210lb OHP
>im small as fuck
hmmmm
>Deadlift goes up 10lbs every workout, at 255lbsx5 now
>If I add more than 1-2 reps to the same squat weight, I feel like I'm about to pull muscles in my groin at 150lbs
I think lack of flexibly throughout my life fucked all my hip/groin muscles. I started squatting without even the bar
>>42098773
How can you only lift 20lbs for OHP?
Thats less than the weight of a backpack loaded with textbooks.
>been lifting for 6 years
>as weak as ppl ITT
>too embarrassed to tell ppl how long i've been working out
>Bench as much as I squat despite squatting with 3x frequency of my bench
>calves forever small, so it still looks like I have chicken legs
>hate food, despise bulking, ideally would eat 1-2 meals a day
>porn addiction, no gf, virgin, social anxiety, depression
>>42098786
It is mot like you are any better either.
>>42097187
>i-i have a bad shoulder, fuck off
>tfw
Dude I started at 15 and could make the jump to 30 for MONTHS. Rotary cuff injuries ain't nothin' to fuck with.
>squats 135lbs
>too afraid to move up even though I know I can because Ive fucked up my groins twice squatting heavy
>all my lifts are trash except ohp
>>42103791
Almost exactly my numbers in high school at 60kg
Except my OHP would have been like 50
>>42097166
i ohp 85 and i weigh 140 at 5'8
is this optimal?
>inb4 manlet
>>42097489
140lb x 5 bench press @ 5'8", 135lbs
is this dcent?
>>42106297
>>42106327
Can anyone answer this for me?
>>42097126
>80lb OHP
>after a month of 70lb
>>42099339
I hope you've gone to the gym in the 2 days you've posted, anon.
If you can press 35lb dumbbells you can definitely bench the bar, it'll just feel differently. Go for it, anon. I've seen a ton of DYELS in the gym and the only ones I don't like are the cocky ones that think they can squat 3pl8 because they can box squat it with 5 inches of ROM
>>42097126
I was feeling bad about my 80lbs ohp after 7 months, thanks OP
>>42097626
>You're still doing better than everyone who isn't trying.
When i started i could still do 100 pounds so before then i was still stronger than him
>Triceps are lacking.
>It's like working a dysfunctional muscle.
>Back workouts never seem to be doing anything for my back.
>Always trying to see if my movements are wrong
>Lunges make me want to cringe up and die
>my leg workouts use considerably less weight than what everyone else is doing.
>>42097126
>plateau'd on 125 for weeks.
>Can get up 135 with the slightest leg drive and shitty form :/
>2.5 lb plates arent helping.
lookin good tho
>>42097126
Sucks to be you
>>42097126
Same, don't worry friendo we just gotta keep at it
>>42097126
Jesus Christ op i use 70 for single arm dumbbell OHP
>OHP 145 lbs max
>only bench 205 lbs, squat 285 lbs, and deadlift 315 lbs max
What the fuck is wrong with me /fit/?
>>42117104
5'6 pure blood manlet here, how long have you been doing ohp? I made it to 95lb at 5x10 after 3 months
I have John McCain tier shoulder mobility /fit/, lay off of me.
>>42097187
>>guys who were waiting to use the seat after I was finished were cracking up behind their hands watching me struggle to finish it
Theyre probably weak cunts. Guys who actually laugh at other people at the gym are massively insecure and not worth your time or thoughts. Dont even dignify them with a response.
>10lb side lateral raise
How are my stats
55kg x 5 OHP
90kg x 5 bench
135kg x 5 squat
140kg x 5
Been lifting for a year this month
5'10 79kg
> 330lbs squats
> 176lbs bench press
>>42097126
180 OHP
100 Bench
I think its either psychological or because i have super broad shoulders and the bench is too narrow
>>42105389
>Weighing less than your squat in 2017 lul
>>42122225
how
>>42113326
i could deadlift 135 for reps when i could only bench 80 for reps
>>42097626
Hahahahaha
>2pl8 ohp
>can't even do a bodyweight squat
>>42097626
That was nice, thanks
