/p/ here, phone cameras usually use wide angle lenses that distort your features, making you look fatter than you actually are.

a 50mm is lose to what the human eye sees, but 85mms are usually used for portaits.

Beyond 85mm and you actually get the opposite of wide angle, where you'll start thinning down.

I think those stock canon lenses are EF-S 18-55 iirc. Good lenses for what they are, they've got wide-angle to mid telephoto, you'll definitely look thicker with a shot from one of those compared to a typical cellphone. I used to have one that I shot portrait nudes on, got the job done.
