It's hard to search for the objectively strongest man, because you always get results for the competitions, which isn't exactly what I want. When I say "strongest", I don't necessarily mean current strongest, just of those who are alive, who was strongest at their peak?

Mark Henry?
Brian Shaw?
Mariusz Pudzianowski?
Hafþór Björnsson?

I'm not a regular here, so if this question is common, please direct me to a thread or something else and mods delete this one.

Eddie has the largest deadlift of any man ever, he is the strongest man ever

To clarify i mean eddie hall

Kiril sarey chev

A common metric in powerlifting is your "total", the combined weight of your max bench, squat, and deadlift. Eddie's is probably around 2700 (based of videos of him beanching 1×6 and squatting 1×5 run through http://www.exrx.net/Calculators/OneRepMax.html) i do not know of a total higher than this
>>
>>42050895

Today? Probably Eddie Hall, and all modern top strongmen competitors. That's the only strength sport with real money in it so it draws the best, the average height of strongmen is HUGE, and they need to be extremely multi-facated and conditioned to win.
>>
>>42051341
Hafthor about 2300 and shaw maybe 2600
>>
>>42051317
How do you measure that? Eddie Hall obviously has the strongest deadlift, Zydrunas Savickas has the heaviest shoulder press, Kirill Sarychev has the highest bench press etc. etc.
>>42051341
That's ok, but I somehow doubt that its accurate that Eddie hall beats Kirill's total by more than 140kg.
>>
>>42051492
>How do you measure that? Eddie Hall obviously has the strongest deadlift, Zydrunas Savickas has the heaviest shoulder press, Kirill Sarychev has the highest bench press etc. etc.
obviously you go by highest combined average
>>
>>42051384
>the average height of strongmen is HUGE
marius won more than anybody else and he's 6'1''
>>
>>42051341
>>42051440
mark henry has a raw total of 2336, going by wikipedia

I think the raw part is important.

Don Reinhoudt had 2391, who can beat that?
>>
brad dingleberry obviously
>>
what about ray williams?
>>
>>42051614
Tough to say, wikipedia does not include raw PRs for most lifters. I personally think equipped is probably an accurate measure as long as you dont compare it to someone elses unequipped.
>>
>>42052102
2232 raw. Don't know about equipped.
>>
>>42051614
>Don Reinhoudt had 2391, who can beat that?

If he prepped for a meet, Hall could probably 825/575/1000 raw based on the lifts he's posted.
>>
lots of eddie's lifts thrown around aren't raw, beware of that
>>
>>42052252
lol he squatted 7 something like 15 times w/ wraps, did 585 for like 6 at the end of his worksets and obviously lifted 1100 in suit/. he would probably end up around 900/640/950 without wraps. he could probably put a total that wouldnt be touched for years but just does care
>>
>>42052274
I tried to use only equipped for totals for the sake of consistancy
>>
>>42050895
Eddie Hall is the strongest man in history
>>
>>42051514
What does the average height and a 6'1 man winning have anything to do with the statement? Learn to comprehend
>>
>>42050895
I strongly doubt you're going to find the World's Strongest Man at a 1 st world competition.

The WSM is probably some Romanian farm boy who's been doing heavy-ass labor every day of his life and who nobody's ever heard of.
>>
>>42053401
This.
>>
>>42053401
Actually no because the fucking farm not doesn't have steroids and isn't eating 10 thousand calories a day
>>
>>42053401
yeah those guys at WSM are just gym rats, they aren't really that strong. no doubt a lean, natural farm boy would be able to carry a 1500lbs yoke faster than any of them.
>>
>>42053094
Wasn't there some 8 foot giant in Ireland during the 19th century who was inhumanly strong? I remember reading about some fucker that lifted a 1k boat or something. I know there are no "official records" of it but it would be fun to see that dude compete

>>42050895
Hard to argue for anyone other than Eddie. He can pick something up that no one else in history has been able to come close too. Won a WSM, and can theoretically beat the deadlift, bench and total PL records.
>>
>>42054821
Give this one a try
https://youtu.be/fhzaUCx-amQ
>>
>>42051341
Even then, he doesn't train for powerlifting. He trains for strongman.

Currently, this year, he is the strongest person on earth, as defined from the strongman competition. But that's not saying much as Brian Shaw was recovering from an injury.

But really, 500kg deadlift is fucking amazing, and there's a really good argument to use the deadlift as the sole measure for strength
>>
>>42051341
Dave Hoff's 3000lb total

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xhPrqkc8MZ4
>>
Eddie Hall by far
>Squat 345kgx8 100% Raw last rep paused in trainers
>Press 216kg on an axle bar for an easy single, no Leg drive or lean back
>Deadlift 500kg equipped
>Pause Bench Press 265kgx6 100% Raw medium grip width

I don't see anyone else putting up those numbers on the Big 4
>>
>>42055787
equipped lifting and shit ROM.

Funny that he "benches" more than he deadlifts. What a fuckin joke. Might as well put a forklift under him and see how much he can "lift" before his bones snap.

>What does the average height and a 6'1 man winning have anything to do with the statement?
>>42058309
since you're gonna samefag to cover your butthurt (which you shouldn't have in the first place): why even mention height? Of course they're all going to be big guys, what does that have to do with it? The strongman contest doesn't have any height restrictions. It looked like you were saying that they're all gonna be really tall, which isn't the case. Only brian shaw and thor are exceptional in that case, that I can think of. Most of the strongest are in the 6-6.5 range. Where they really stand out is weight, though still Marius was "only" like 260 or something.

There's too many touchy autists on the chans these days, don't be one of them.
>>
>>42050895
No one is the """"strongest""". People are stronger at diff things. Eddie Hall is the strongest at deadlift. Brian may be the strongest at ohp (idk lmao). Depends what. WSM is just general, even if Thor wins next year, Eddie will still have been the "strongest".
>>
>>42058744
somebody out there is objectively the strongest human alive. He may not be the strongest in every way, but when you add it all up, he'll have the highest numbers. Seems like Eddie Hall is the consensus.
>>
>>42051341
Powerlifting total is garbage. A better total would NEED to include ohp/logpress (or other variation -preferably clean and press), just to be accurate in testing overall strength. Strongman is a far better competition.
>>
>>42058773
so you think marius is the strongest?
>>
>>42053401

Those competing at WSM are all freaks of nature - just like your mythical farmboy.

Google Eddie Hall at 16 and see how big and ripped he was from only swimming, see how Hafor became competitive so quickly, etc etc etc.

There are also many historical examples. Ken Patera - the last great US olympic lifter and famous pro wrestler - overhead pressed 100kg the fiirst time he picked up a barbell. 100kg! That's a freak.
>>
>>42058773
Big 4 super total
With some sort of calculation to factor in conditioning that could be tested with prowlers and loading exercises
>>
>>42060346

What you've described is basically WSM. Of course that sport realizes the bench press doesn't appeal to any normie.
>>
>>42060372
Yeah but a bench press is still a pretty solid measure of upper body strength

I feel like WSM is really close to a true measurement of one's total strength it just lacks horizontal pressing but with that argument you can say they need rowing events too
>>
Probably that insane russian weightlifter. They had to implement weight classes cause he had all the world records

Bill kazmaier. They literally banned him from WSM because he was too good. He won WSM and the heavyweight pl title in the same year. Also set the bench record (and probably others too).

>>
>>42062021
His bench is garbage. Probably can't OHP his bodyweight.
>>
>>42056496
Like you said, he had leg drive.

OHP and variants of it (except anything sitting) are the greatest tests of strength
>>
>>42062015
I was just reading about this. He won first place three times in a row by "a large margin", and was banned for the next 4 years. Meaning he could have won 1st 7 times in a row, beating out Marius if that's the case.

I just found out that Eddie won the WSM this year. Still don't know his big 3 raw total.

According to wikipedia, Don still holds it at 2391. Wikipedia is inconsistent with this kind of thing though,
>Reinhoudt was the first man to break the 2400 pound total record in powerlifting, which was performed raw by today's standards, beating the legendary Jon Cole in 1975.[1] Setting and breaking over forty powerlifting records throughout his career, he is widely considered to be one of the very best powerlifters of all time.[1] Reinhoudt still holds the world record for the highest raw total in history at 2391 lbs.[4]
So is it 2400+ or 2391?

Likewise with Kaz,
>His winning lifts included an 865 lbs squat, the 622 lbs bench press and an 804 lbs deadlift for a 2292 lbs total.[3] ...
... at the USPF West Georgia Open Powerlifting Championships, held in Columbus, Georgia on January 31, 1981.[6] In this competition, Kazmaier officially became the first human to bench press 300 kg (661.4 lbs)[5] (raw) in an IPF-sanctioned meet* and recorded his lifetime best three-lift-total of 2425 lbs (1100 kg),
2292...or 2425?
>>
>>42062178
It is the purest form of being strong, lifting something from the ground over your head is the first strength instinct you have!
>>
>>42051384
Lalas is a 5'9" king of manlets though. Granted he has the broadest shoulders of any current strongman competitor AFAIK.
As long as lalas lifts manlets will never learn

Eddie Hall. Followed by Zydrunas Savickas. No discussion.
>>
>>42052189
Equipped is a very poor measurement for pure strength.

Two different people can get WILDLY different amount of weight from equipment.

Two guys may both squat 300 kg raw. One of them may only squat 350 with equipment, the other can reach 400 or above.

It's all about how tight your suit is, how hard your knees are wrapped, how experienced you are with the equipment, your angles as well as your specific strenght and weaknesses.

I got massive amounts of weight from my squat suit as my weakness has always been in the bottom and mid portion of the squat.
>>
>>42064189
That said, equipped is more of a real sport than raw imo.

Takes far more skill to lift equipped, and is much harder and more taxing on your body. But as a measurement of strength it is very poor. Actually a good measurement of mental strength, need courage to bench with a supertight benchshirt.
>>
>>42063770
>backlift
Backlift is literally just seeing how much weight you can move through a 10 degree ROM with. It's like putting all the plates on the leg press and doing a literal 1" ROM. It's not a real lift. Also, many of those old time strongman feats were complete bullshit. Using fake weights, weights that were heavy but not as heavy as advertised, and sometimes just blatantly making shit up that never happened at all.
>>
>>42062042
Wtf, no. People have lifted literally >100 lbs more than him in clean and press, snatch, and clean and jerk. Magnusson has deadlifted almost 200 lbs more than him, Sarychev has benched ~100 lbs more than him.

His only really noteworthy lifts are a 1,200 lb """"""squat""""" (aka quarter squat, aka bullshit) and a memelift of 6 thousand (which isn't a real fucking lift).

He has no verified records in any lift. Dude was strong, but nowhere near the "strongest".
