squarish jaws are kinda fashion desu. most models and female public figures have either a strong jaw or at least sharp

I'm gay, and some of the girls that almost make me feel I could survive a straight relationship had square jaws.

Strong jaw on a female is considered an attractive trait to most.

The most attractive specimen of each gender is a person who has attractive traits of BOTH genders. Very attractive men have good masculine features but they also have feminine features as well. We are attracted to this because the offspring will inherit the genes of this person and it is good to know that no matter the gender, the offspring will inherit strong genes.

I have both hard and manly facial features, along with softer features as well in my face. I've been saying that forever, that my sons and or daughters would look good.

I'm on nofap two weeks now.

You have to make a commitment. You need to realize that you have the power. It helps to believe that girls will find you more attractive, and quite honestly they do.

I've been attempting nofap for a few months actually. And sometimes I fail. But I keep getting back on the horse. The benefits are too much to list.

4chan can be a trigger. Eventually you will be able to dissociate seeing a picture of a sexy woman and masturbation. Once you hit this point there's no reason to leave 4chan.

With noporn/nofap it's not about completely abstaining, at least not in the beginning. It's about your mindset. You try, you may fail, but then you try harder again. Eventually you will make it.

Can one 'fling/catapult' a basketball with their arm into the hoop instead of the usual way to shoot(with wrists and overhead) ; is this bad form and what are the risks? I don't want to sprain anything. I'm a short tiny girl with no tricep muscles so i can't even shoot a 3p half the time. >>
I'm a beginner, and a few of the simple programs I've seen online don't really seem to group certain muscles together. For example, an ABA BAB program would have deadlifts and pullups on A and then rows on B. Why would you work back on both days? Right now I'm doing dl, pull ups, and rows on one day and squats, bench, and ohp on the other. Why do some programs incorporate the same muscle groups on both days, instead of keeping them mostly separate?
>>
Is there any point to doing pulldowns if I can do pullups? I like experimenting with the different grip handles and the movement is fun for me.

Is it alright if I have more than one rest day as a beginner? I've been doing a push-up routine and my biceps and upper pecs are really sore even after not working them for 24 hours. I've seen military push-up sets that don't allow any rest days so I was thinking of doing that despite the sticky telling me to have at least one day of relaxation.
>>
Question for you guys...

Why the fuck do my joints hurt? Specifically my elbows and my knees. Like right now, they hurt, and today is my rest day.

>tfw walking for more than a few hours will cause knee pain.
>tfw you never had that problem before lifting

Help. Me. Please.
What can I do to solve this? When my knees were really bad my doctor said they were as healthy as they come. Even had x-rays and ultrasounds... I've been taking fish oil supplements.

Is it muscle/tendon related, rather than the joints themselves?

I've been lifting 5/6 days a week for about 10 months

To the extent your teammate hates you because you're handicapping yourself with a self imposed limitation at no discernable benefit and everyone gets annoyed and vicariously embarrassed at how stupid you look literally chucking baskets

Seriously, if you're weak, work out and practice until you can make it

Ps:

have you lifted before? If no

go to BMR calc, put body weight you want to be
work out TDEE

eat maintenance calories for that body weight

you will gain muscle and lose fat to become that weight but your body will become that weight if you eat that many calories

I'm probably in advanced beginner territory after doing my time in a beginner routine. I enjoy lifting, and my schedule just got some more free time for the next few months. If I don't really care about how much time I spend in the gym, both in how many days and length of sessions, what are some routines I can do to put on some well rounded mass?

I'm leaning towards the generic bulking routine, but thought I should ask you faggots about anything I should scope out.
>>
>>42012834
Yes I've lifted before but now I want be more serious about it. So I'll just have to eat 2658 cals x day to be 154 lbs and do the routine in the sticky. Thanks!
>>
>>42012897
why the fuck would bulk or cut at the beginner stage?
>>
>>42012879
If you're a beginner, definitely 5 reps (this is relatively low) for each set, heavy weight so you're able to build strength in the beginning
>>
>>42005053
Ok guys. I need help. So a good friend was whining about being unfit, so a few months back I started taking him to the gym. Showed him my routine (he basically just like squats and bench) and made sure he had solid form on the big 4 compounds. I also spot him when he wants to go heavy. He's slowly becoming a raging douche though. He doesn't have any higher education, but I'm still in college. Due to some personal stuff couple with exams, for the last 4 weeks I've been unable to go to the gym more than once or twice a week. He's started mouthing off about how he's way fitter than me, and how fat I am. I'm around 18% bfp, so he ain't wrong, but my lifts are significantly higher than his. In fact, we tested it. Now he just limits the comments on our strength to people outside our immediate friends group.

Anyway, the fucker's one claim to fame is that he can do a few chinups. I can't do more than maybe one or two. Are there any protocols for increasing the amount of pullups one can do rapidly (within 3 mo). I know of Armstrong, but I can't install a pullup bar in my house, so it won't work for me.
>>

3 times a week:

3xAMRAP + negatives untill 8 reps

when you manage to do 5, start adding weight and do 3x5 + 1xAMRAP without weight, and in the other days do one or two sets of 60% of your maximum reps

Apparently my form is perfect. Coming from the personal trainers at the gym, and my friend I go to the gym with.

I even cut down to doing legs once a week, and only move up in weight about once a month. Just because I'm so afraid of having the pain I had while doing Strong Lifts. (Squats every day - moving up 5 pounds everytime - that was seriously fucking stupid. Why would anyone recommend this.)

I'm feeling insane, and it's exhausting. Doctors say I'm healthy, but I'm in pain. That's not how healthy people feel. The best advice anyone has given me is "Just take it easy." - but I am... Most of the guys I hit the gym with push yourselves much harder than I do, and don't feel a thing. Wtf is wrong. Ugh

If it's not a form problem, you're pushing yourself too hard and pain is your body's way of telling you that. You need to listen. Take a short break, don't increase weight too rapidly, try icing after exercise, etc.

Here, you should be feeling it as long as your core is engaged. Find the point at which you feel the most tension in your core and that *should* be straight. Hips up too much you're using your glutes/quads, hips down and you're just hanging, not using your lower abdomen as much.

How many reps are optimal for weighted pullups?

In SS it says to do weighted pullups once you can do 12-15 at bodyweight, but then to work it like everything else at three sets of five.

In harsh's worksheet on the fit wiki it says to do assistance exercises at higher reps ie 8-20.

I tried increasing at 2.5 / workout doing three sets of five, but couldn't keep it up after reaching 52.5 lbs added.
>>
>>42017822
Pull ups are this kind of exercize that are best worked in the 6-12 rep range, so stick with that if you want to up the weight you're using.

Just gradually up the weight and cycle rep ranges. Do 4x12 if you feel that you need a little bit more volume in order to get stronger, switch to something like 12/10/8/6 or 4x8 if you want to work between size and strenght, or do 3x4-6 if you really wanna work on strenght
>>
>>42017822
Weighted pullups are basically a main compound lift.
So yeah, 3x5 works well for them.
If you can't progress with 3x5 straight, try this:
lift 50 2x5 + 52.5 1x5
next time 50 1x5 + 52.5 2x5
next time 52.5 3x5
next time 52.5 2x5 + 55 1x5
and so on

The same system works well for other Lifts (especially OHP) too if you stall.

If that's still too much, go to 5x5 and progress even slower (obviously not with the weight you did 3x5 with before), i.e. 4x5+1x5, then 3x5+2x5, then 2x5+3x5 etc.
>>
Why does my squat feel like shit?
I started doing rippetoe lowbar a few months ago, it went great at first, but I feel like I'm close to stalling and I'm only doing a hair over 2 plates for 3x5.
It feels worst in the hole, at the lowest point below parallel.
The usual sticking point, a bit above parallel on the way up is not there, it just shoots up from just above parallel to the top.
I guess I should film myself to see if I'm not going too low, but I really doubt it.
It basically goes like this:
>down, nice and controlled
>down, down
>[reach parallel]
>alright, a bit more to get to proper depth
>[break parallel]
>oh shit fuck this is heavy I need to get back up
>[struggle]
>fuck fuck fuck go up up up fuck HIP DRAAAAAHVE
>[break parallel]
>wew thank god that's over, now drive up the rest of the way
>[lock out with bar and plates shaking]
>what, already there?

Hard to tell, but the leaner you get, the smaller the deficit should be. I'd throw out 15%bf as a number here from where you should be more careful.
Above 20% you can cut much harder, but where you're now, 500 is probably a good place to stay for now.

>no matter the gender, the offspring will inherit strong genes.

The correct word is, MAY inherit. The genetic lottery is most visible when a pair of average parents have a stunning looking kid and vice versa. Children are a mixture of their parents genes. Some can lay dormant and be expressed only in the next generation.
Therefore, you might have tall parents, but still be shorter. Or, they might be short and you end up tall.
This is a common misconception in here that an attractive mate guarantees attractive offspring. It does increase chances for the outcome you seek, but most likely you'll end up disappointed if you have some high expectations.
Look at Bruce Willis's daughters. They got his jaw and fuck, in my opinion it looks FAR from good on them.

Adult faces should have square jaws, hollow cheeks, pouty lips, and pronounced cheekbones.

Baby faces have small pointed chins, chubby cheeks, and no visible cheekbones.

Modern humans have poor oral posture, resulting in recessed maxilla and a short, small jaw, making them look like baby faces which have melted downward.

For hypertrophy, your muscles need 36-48 hours to full recover. That means you either workout 3 times per week, or you use a split such as push/pull or upper/lower to cram in more exercises per week while still giving your muscles a two day rest period.

The military push up training is to condition you to have more endurance, which is different from hypertrophy.

Has this ever actually had any significance?
>>
>>42024272
It's for when you're lifting so heavy that it's hard to hold on to the bar. Your hand muscles aren't as strong as your posterior chain. Other alternatives include hookgrip and straps.
>>
>>42019315
Grunt in public, no one cares. If you're not grunting you're not working hard enough.
>>
>>42022366
It's fine. Sit-ups really isn't a very good exercise however so if you want to specifically target your abs start doing planks and leg raises.
Also, since you're a beginner you'll get plenty of ab stimulation from squats and deadlifts.
>>
>>42024340

>>
>>42021307
I recommend 3x5. 5x5 for squats is horrible mentally for a lot of beginners. 5 reps is also a better range for strength gains than 10 reps while still giving plenty of mass for a beginner.
I personally did phrak's greyskull and really recommend it. It will give you a more balanced body as opposed to ss or sl5x5 that focuses more on lower body.

>>

Pretty much, although for really heavy weights even alternating might not be enough and straps might be necessary. Some people actually notice that their traps grow uneven which can lead to muscle imbalances in their other lifts as well, but it seems to differ from person to person. Look up Alan Thrall's channel on youtube, he has some good videos on the subject.

when you can't do that anymore, then 3x5 last amrap, then 3x3 last amrap

amrap is good because when you deload you still get volume with reduced weight, and some hypertrophy too

way better than settling for just 5 reps even though you can do more

is it possible to waste beginner gains if you cut and lift?
>>
>>42005053
sure, why not? As long as she's not fat
>>
>>42027687
I did exactly that. Made some gains til I stalled on my lifts and then gradually went down a bit.
If you aren't already pretty strong/athletic you will probably do the same.

Is doing dumbbell versions of exercises bad for the first month or so of lifting? I'm moving into an apartment complex that has a fitness room with only dumbbells and cardio stuff, and don't have access to the regular university gym until sometime in August.

I probably won't be lifting heavy enough for grip strength to be a problem, since I'm a DYEL skelly
>>
I'm starting today the gym, should I ask for a routine or do the one in the sticky?

I'm just starting out lifting weights using the stripped 5x5 program, but I have no clue how much weight I should be lifting for each exercise? I'm a grill, 180 lbs, 5'5" if that helps?
>>
WHAT DO YOU DO IN BETWEEN SETS?

Do you pace around like a lost beta, or do you just stare at the weights or other people?
>>
>>42027851
It's fine if you're a beginner. You don't have to start with learning hip drive
>>
>>42028379
best do stronglifts 5x5 for a month to get into lifting, then do gslp for a year or so and read starting strength for technique
and read the fucking sticky:
https://web.archive.org/web/20160829003456/http://www.liamrosen.com/fitness.html
and share the link on /fit/ as often as possible
and watch this

creatine can take up to 303 °C, freezing wont be a problem either

I'm squatting three times per week on Stronglifts and I'm wondering if I can reduce it to one or two times per week.

Thinking about removing squats from day B.

Is this a bad idea? I play rugby and the fatigue is becoming a problem.
>>
>>42028591
hey, few things to start of with =]
1. do the weight you can do for 5-10 reps in the last set, in the sets before that maybe do 92%, 84%, 76% and 70% of that weight. I just pulld these numbers out of my nose but they will work I guess. just read the article again ffs
2. I'm brian
3. add 3x10-20 hip thrusts on day A and 3x10-20 ADductor machine on day B and maybe some curls if you're into that
>>
>>42029267
gslp has you squatting only twice per week, the routine is awesome

Thanks, I will try it, I hope it isn't too fatiguing. My coach told us to do Starting Strength but I hate power cleans.
