I've been lurking this board for a while now trying to get into it but it's been hard since you all seem to be interested in lifting/bulking and I'm more of a trailrunning kind of guy. Any other runners out there? How much do you run a week? Do you race?

Hey, im just here for solidarity.
I jog about about 10 km a week (barefoot for my weakass ankles), usually after heavy lifting sessions.
I enjoy running, but I wouldn't call myself a runner.

Was a long distance runner for a long time (10k preferred). Life and priorities changed, now I am bulking and lifting. I might run again sometime for cardio. I will probably still do races for fun.

I do one 20min tempo run a week
I swim 3-4 times a week
I've had some quad problems so I'm currently not running more than once a week, but this is my reasoning: the swimming builds my aerobic base and the one tempo run I do improves my ability to run hard. I'll be running a 12min test in August and perhaps a 10k in September with my mates and this is my preparation :|

Sucks though, on my longer runs I'll often get gas or cramps which are really frustrating because they don't hurt and aren't cardio related but are still enough discomfort to make me start walking for a period over the course of an hour long run...

If anything, my gainz sped up once I realized "cardio kills your gainz" was a meme, and started following Couch to 5k.

Looked better, felt better, my lifts exploded, and the belly fat just melted off. I was amazed by just how much of a difference it made.

Roughly 45kms a week
PRS are 46 for 10k and 1:41 for the half
I run 4 days a week and lift 3 times a week
Have a 230kg diddly and 200kg squat
Its not true that you burn your muscles, only undereating will do that

the thing about running is that it's so good when you're grinding out distances but when you get an injury, it's fucking shit. i was starting a marathon training plan and then 30 minutes into a run, the side of my knee starts tweaking and i have to stop.

i have self diagnosed myself with it band syndrome. i can still run on it but the pain gets worse and worse. then the next day, it will sting a bit and ibuprofen gets rid of it so something is getting a bit inflamed. i haven't been running properly for 2 weeks, just hip stretches and foam rolling.

i haven't been to the doctors yet because it feels fine except for when i run. last time i had a similar problem, the doc looked at my knee and applied pressure, asked if it hurt. it didn't hurt anywhere so said he couldn't tell anything and we would have to get a scan in a few weeks. by the time that rolled around, it fixed itself

It is IT band syndrome.

Too much too soon. Take it easy. If you cant run for more than a minute you have no business marathon training.

IT bands are nasty, the injury is cumulative
Take a week maybe two off. Than start up slow. 1k, 2k max.
Take a day off between runs.
over a period off a month go back to 5k.
And continue taking it slow. Once a week do a distance run. This is your slow as much as you can run. At the end of recovery this should be around 5k.
the next two are your maintenance runs. about half of that run but a little bit faster. Continue as such until your at around 18km.
At around this point sign up for a half marathon.

Apply warm water to the knee when taking a shower, it helps circulation and speeds up healing a little.
Do some granny exercises for your knees in the meantime don't go around squatting 8pl8lmao
