Fedor, unlike the majority of MMA fighters both past and present, probably didn't take BBing drugs - test, tren, mast etc etc. My guess is he was taking athletic orals during his career - TBOL, very likely as it's popular all over Russia, and halo.

Coupled with him being 5'11 and having to bulk up to fight at heavyweight, this would explain why he looked 'puffy' fighting. Also his % of bodyfat is well within the beneficial athletic range. 'Cut' doesn't equal athletic.

The statement 'fighting isn't about athleticism' infers that athleticism is irrelevant.
Mark Hunt has ridiculous knockout power and an excellent chin, two physical attributes which have complimented his technique.
Demian Maia without a doubt has fantastic grappling strength, i.e. grip strength etc.
Athleticism AND technique are both very important in fighting, one so more than the other.
Take someone without the lower bounds of athleticism to implement their technique and they are useless.
Equally it would be extremely difficult to find an elite fighter who while they may not be as athletic as their competition still would not be far more athletically talented than most of the amateur population in their chosen sport.
