Let me finally clear up the confusion around 1/2/3/4

barbell = 20kg (~44lbs)
biggest plates in a normal gym = 25kg (~55lbs)

1 is overhead press with 1 of the biggest plates on each side which is 70kg (~154lbs)

2 is bench press with 2 of the biggest plates on each side which is 120kg (~265lbs)

3 is squats with 3 of the biggest plates on each side which is 170kg (~375lbs)

4 is deadlifts with 4 of the biggest plates on each side which is 220kg (~485lbs)

A plate is a 45lb plate. In Europe people usually just say the weight in kg instead of in terms of plates. Also in America, 25kg plates are less common in normal gyms.

Actually plates are devalued these days.
In older days, a plate meant the heaviest in the gym, which was the 100lb plate.

So back about 1950-60, a 1plate overhead press meant 225-255lbs; mind that this was before bars were standardized. Once rubber bumpers became common alongside the 50mm olympic bar and the 10/15/20/20kg and 10/25/45lb plates we have the modern barbell setup

I've never seen a 25kg plate outside of a powerlifting meet. My gym has (in pounds) 2.5, 5, 10, 25, 45, and 100lb plates. The 100s are usually only seen on legpress or deadlifts.

Literally never found this to be the case. My current gym only has 20kg plates max.Same in another European city I lived in.
